      Satanism, yay!

Since this is my 666th post, I thought I would post a little about Theistic Satanism and Devil worship. Keep in mind that I'm not an expert, just someone who likes to Google and read things, and who has an appreciation for different points of view. Although I did take an anthropology course on the roots of hell once.

I have some links on the bottom, but I wanted to post some of this so people will see that there is nothing to be afraid of just by opening those pages:

Devil worship is the expression of ardent love, devotion, or reverence (i.e., "worship") toward a cultural scapegoat figure (i.e., a "Devil") that is reclaimed as a slandered divinity. It is not the worship of "evil" per se, but rather an attack against all purely dualistic "good vs. evil" or "black and white" rhetoric. It is also called theistic Satanism, though I would elaborate that this is only appropriate when the particular Devil being celebrated is called Satan. (And as shall be explained elsewhere on this website, there is far more than just one entity out there that can be called "Satan.")

But by inciting doubt, Devils put humans into situations in which we are forced to re-think everything we believe. And by inspiring humans to put themselves before "God" or "the gods," they cause us to move away from authoritarian dogma and superstition. Thus, Devils are not so much "evil spirits," but rather slandered heroes who champion humanism and intellectual power. As the Powers of Darkness, they may often seem dark and spooky; as the "Gods of Godlessness," they may seem socially unacceptable. But they are really only "evil" in the eyes of conventional opinion-makers, who want humans to remain as gullible and superstitious (and controllable) as possible. Objectively speaking, nothing in existence is either completely "good" or completely "evil."

The above is from one of the links I gave you (emphasis mine).

Only a tiny percentage of people actually worship the idea of evil itself, and even Theistic Satanists agree that those people are just mentally disturbed. These people are not Satanists, they're just attention-seeking nutcases. Every religion has them.

P.S. I know that the "real" number is that of the Beast, not Lucifer, and that it's 616, or some other thing, so let's not take the 666 thing too seriously here. Just an excuse for the post really.

I in NO STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION support satanism.

But I find it rather ironic that "Do not harm little children." is a satanic commandment, and thousands of priests have been accused of molestations and a large portion of them convicted and sentenced.

      The Satanic Bible

This is one of the most interesting wiki articles I've had the pleasure to read. I may buy the book for a laugh, have it on my shelf right next to The God Delusion and my dad's old bible.

Satanism is actually a very liberating "religion". I'm pretty sure it was made as a parody-mockery of religion in general. Kind of like Discordianism.

The use of the name "Lucifer" by xtians has always amused. Its well known that in Latin this means "the light bearer". And from an entymology perspective is linked to words such as Lucid....

Lucifer was also the name for Venus. The harbringer of light being the morning star - the planet venus. Some beleive that the xtians who of course hated the idea of Pagan female gods - especially a goddess of sexuality - turned poor old sexy Venus into their devil.

Xtians are indeed sad and need to get laid more.

      From Wikipedia :

Lucifer is a Latin word, literally meaning "light-bearer", that was used as a name for the "day star" or "Morning Star" that precedes the rising of the sun. The name is frequently given to the Devil in Christian convention. Use of this name in reference to a fallen angel stems from a particular interpretation of Isaiah 14:3-20, a passage that speaks of someone who is given the name of "Day Star" or "Morning Star" (in Latin, Lucifer) as fallen from heaven.[2] In 2 Peter 1:19 and elsewhere, the same Latin word lucifer is used of the morning star with no relation to the devil. However, in post-New Testament writings the Latin word Lucifer has often been used as a name for the devil.

I bolded the last sentence as it shows that the concept of lucifer as the devil was conceived LATER. I remember reading somewhere that the devil and hell only started appearing after 300 EV or so - I must try and dig up the references.
Every Man and Every Woman is a Star - There is no god but Man.

The word of sin is restriction - Thou hast no right but to do what thy will.

I'm pretty sure the one about "little children" is a direct reaction to all the silly satanic ritual abuse scares a couple of decades ago.

For me satanism is no different from christianity. They are all same to me.

Since all these systems are based on something that requires faith and has no proof, well.. nobody can say that their belief is better than another.
Jujutsu is the gentle art. It's the art where a small man is going to prove to you, no matter how strong you are, no matter how mad you get, that you're going to have to accept defeat. That's what jujutsu is.

Likewise. Yet, I try to understand, since I know that those who belief in something have an urge to prove it to everyone else.

It is really amusing. And kind of pathetic.

Hm, well in the case of this thread, I am not a Satanist, as I said in the OP. I simply appreciate parts of it. So not all threads about religion are about convincing people that one belief is better than another.

Actually if you read the wiki I posted, Satanism has no god other than yourself. You are the most important entity in your universe.

Satanism isn't the worship of the Devil. It's the worship of the self.

Well...yes and no. Theistic Satanism actually does have gods or beings you worship. LaVeyan & other forms of Satanism are as you say, without gods.

      Then go away.

And yes, alex, satanism is largely the worship of yourself.

Yes, the idea that you are a god is very interesting and for me it is one of the most rational type of religion. After all, you'll live this life for yourself, not for any deity or anybody else.
