Thread: I would probably give $1,000,000 to anyone that could convince me that God exists.

The odds of it "just happening" are virtually nil.
Hate to shoot you down, mate, but...
Earth is the only planet with current life and liquid water that we know of to date (Mars ring any bells?). There are over 100 billion stars in our galaxy alone; that's 100 billion potential solar systems, each containing a series of planets that may or may not be capable of supporting life. We are a tiny speck in the universe, and I highly doubt that we are the only life-and-water-containing planet out there.

On to the second part of your argument: when Earth was very young, it was a violent place of volcanic eruptions, lightning strikes, deep sea vents, etc. Not only did these serve as sources of heat and energy to drive chemical reactions, but they also brought certain atoms and molecules together (as in volcanic eruptions) under unique circumstances that created a great diversity of molecules and compounds. The chances of water, carbon, and other elements being thrown together to create a wide diversity of chemical compounds is very far from nil-look to Io and other moons if you remain skeptical.

      .
Not to mention that there could be lifeforms that do not require water or are not carbon based.

Well that was an awfully baseless attack on the offerer out of blind bias and obvious lack of evidence requested.

So you are just going to write off arguments before they are made because you have some general way of avoiding the issue entirely? Who created God has nothing to do with the question 'whether or not' he exists. It's a seperate issue.

      A classic fail.

Basically, he insulted people, and then labeled the insults.

Epic accomplishment to be sure. (Sarcasm, in case you didn't notice.)

Jujutsu is the gentle art. It's the art where a small man is going to prove to you, no matter how strong you are, no matter how mad you get, that you're going to have to accept defeat. That's what jujutsu is.

Did you mean your whole post was sarcastic or just the last line? Because I'd surely hope your entire post was a joke :3 If you really do think the video is fail, atleast I'll know that any further debate with you is going to be pretty futile

I am actually disgusted that you could possibly disagree with that video. You really are an extremely dangerous person.

Did you even listen to it? Because all the narrator did was explain rationality in an extremely fair and logical way, and then explain how lacking rationality can lead to bad things. In no way at all was it 'just labelling people with insults'.

Why do you despise people who act in a rational manner?

Is it because you are afraid that acting in a rational manner would force you to let go of some of the completely insubstatiated but comforting things which you believe in, like a loving God or an afterlife?

Neither of these things have any evidence or reason to believe in other than wishfully deluding oneself so as to console yourself.

Personally I could never do something so stupid.

I don't call it rational. I call it a polite insult.

      Basically, he very politely says...

A very polite, and decent manner, yes. But everything he says is basically just saying, "You did it, not me."

What exactly is your definition of rational? I am very interested in knowing.

You did what?? He's not accusing anybody of doing anything. He's talking about how scepticism is inherently open minded and dogma is not.

What I mean by rational is essentially just the set of principles explained in that video. Be open to any possibility whatsoever, but only believe in it if there is a reason and evidence which suggests that you should do so.

Please don't honestly tell me you disagree with that.

You can't convince anyone of anything that they aren't expressly willing to believe. It doesn't matter how much money they offer you.

Why does every single thread in R/S turn into an evolution debate? It's not even worth arguing about anymore; if people want to ignore something that is proven in the secular world due to blind faith, then no amount of evidence is going to convince them otherwise. -_-
