      Lightbulb My New Method

      Hello, dreamers.

You may remember me... but probably not. I started here at DV a year or two ago, and since then I've been on-and-off lucid-dream-chasing, returning to the forums every few months or so.

Last week, I came up with a great new method. Let's cut to the chase:

If you've ever played WoW or any game on the Xbox 360, you'll know the undeniably awesome feeling of gaining achievements. It's very satisfying.

A thought struck me as the "achievement completed" sign flashed on my screen... how about if I made a list of achievements for lucid dreaming?

But the trouble was, I knew that my subconscious would not produce unless it had something to work for, not just worthless achievements. So I set about making a list of ways to spend my achievement "points" that would make my subconscious happy. They needed to be something good. Something I'd find it hard to cope without. Let's see... I'm a teenage boy who smokes and plays World of Warcraft. And I love tea. There's four things straight off (see if you can work out the fourth ). My achievement points could act as a currency: I'd have to spend points for a cup of tea, a morning fag, etc. This gives my subconscious an incentive to get achievements.

To follow this method, you have to be reasonably strong-willed and make your achievements/prizes challenging, but attainable.

So far, this method has worked perfectly for me - already one lucid dream since the list was made, hopefully more to come.

You should try it. It works.

      Discuss.

P.S. I hope this hasn't been done before.

      That sounds interesting tbh
I'm definitely trying it out if I manage to organise my 'database of achievements'

And one more question: how much time has passed since you made your list?

      Good thought, Sticktator.

I don't recall any threads about this exact thing, but I find setting goals for myself enough motivation. But whatever works for you.

I hope you stick to lucid dreaming, and don't give up.
      Bollocks.

Cool, but you will probably end up cheating; and fooling yourself.
I mean, ultimately you'll do whatever you want.
      Current projects:
      -Acquire the Aurora
      -Test galatamine, huperzine and choline
-Find smartwatch app for RC reminders at certain intervals
-Ressurect my dream log here, and become more active

Wow, that makes a lot of sense. Sounds like a fun way to pass the time; I might have to try this.

I'm staying positive. If I get into that way of thinking, it's going to happen. But I believe I can stick to it, and psychologically that must raise my chance of sticking to it

Qurut: I can't remember exactly. A little less than a week.

Yes, setting achievable goals and attaining them is not only effective, but gives good feedback on your progress.

Haha... seems like good old-fashioned fun.

Disregarding any sort of possible lucidity helping properties, I think it could be lots of fun. For example, when you get an achievement you get to see what behind door number twoooooooo </announcer voice>

You know, that's not a bad idea. Dream rewards. My rewards don't have to be limited to what exists ;D

Well, something to this effect has been done before. I found it when I was first researching LDing. It was called RILD (Reward Induced Lucid Dream), basically, you let yourself eat a chocolate bar whenever you have an LD, or have brilliant recall one night, etc.
It had a counterpart called PILD (Punishment Induced Lucid Dream), which is really quite self-explanatory.

Then again, the website had a crapload of choices, which I doubt were well researched, from Thirst Induced Lucid Dream, to HOILD, (Hard-on Induced Lucid Dream)!
