If you really want a Lucid Dream...

      Hi,

I've been lucid dreaming for a long time and have had hundreds and hundreds of them. When I really wanted to have, I'd do this certain method which has worked for me almost 100 percent of the time. And even if it failed I usually got a really cool vivid dream out of it.

      Here's what I did:

      1. Stay up all night.
Say, you usally go to bed at midnight. Stay up til about 6 am. You should be extremely tired and might even be having some REM eye twitches while awake.

      2. If you are going to bed at 6 am, set your alarm for 7 am.

      3. Go to bed. It shouldn't be hard cause you are so over-tired. I always tend to sleep on my back with my arms and legs not touching my body or each other.

      4. Stay with it. Now as you fall asleep, you got to stay conscious. This is called a WILD if I remember correctly. You should go directly into a dream because your REM is going off.

      5. Lucid. Once your dreamscape forms, do a reality test if you want, and enjoy the LD.

That's it. It's pretty simple and has worked for me countless times as a young LDer. Also, do this sober for best results.

Good luck, tell me if this works for any of you trying really hard to have their first LD!

That sounds really tiring. Why would you want to set your alarm for 7 if you're just going to WILD? Or did you mean go to sleep, wake up an hour later, then WILD?

my advice would be to not try too hard. but the rest sounds reasonable.

i do see how this would work becus you deprive yourself of rem sleep and it needs to catch up. so in a way i guess the less sleep, probably the more vivid dreams but don't over do it ppl.

So when do you get the daily amount of sleep you need to maintain mental stability? Some people have schedules, you know?

hmm this may work for some people but in personal experience and due to mass forum scanning

depriving yourself of sleep so long is generally a bad way to enter a WILD, yes you have to be tired enough to allow yourself to sleep but you also need to be awake enough to stop your mind falling asleep before your physical body.

If you want to do this i reccomend going to sleep as usual, setting your alarm for approximately 4-5 hours after you predict you will fall to sleep and then when you wake up, try entering a WILD from that point, that seems to be getting the best responses from members. As i say though its personal opinion diffrent methods work better for diffrent people.

I've experience that before. Staying up until darn'd near sunrise and yes, it happened exactly as you advertised. Of course I wouldn't want to intentionally do that every night. But I know, it worked for me.

      This doesn't sound very healthy.

thers nothing unhealthy about it if you control periods of sleep either prior or after it, although as i said a few posts back i dont think its the best way to use this method

      Well, ok.

To all the negative comments, I was just providing this for frustrated beginners who have never had lucid dreams before. I always found this the easiest way to have LDs when I was just starting.

I know this is extreme, and of course this is unhealthy if done everyday, especially if you have job/school.

To clear things up for some people:
My main point is to stay up 5 or so hours after you normally go to sleep.
(If i go to bed at midnight, stay up to 5 or 6 am)
When I did this, I'd do this on a Saturday night since I had nothing to do on Sunday.
I set an alarm an hour after I go to sleep so I don't fall into a deep sleep and forget my instant dreams I get right as I go to bed.
So usually I'd wake up an hour later with a long lucid dream. I go write it down and then go to bed for reals after that.

It does sound a little ridiculous but it all honestly it works really well. Your body is so tired and your REM is firing so it's easy to just nod off right into a dream. I think also your body is less likely to wake up if there is too much excitement because of the over-tiredness.

Maybe this is different for different people.

Have you ever been so overtired that your body tries to fire off its REM while you are awake? It's like your eyes start twitching a little, and if you close your eyes for a little bit (not sleeping) you start seeing things, and your mental to visual imagination is heightened.

For a regular WILD, I think there are still dreams and REM moments in the first 4 or 5 hours of sleep. Most of the time, even when I go to bed at my normal bedtime, I'll have a quick dream in the beginning of sleep, one that I usually only remember if I wake up right as it ends.

So, with the method I provided, I think more REM builds up, and the overtiredness builds up to provide for an easier instant transition to lucid dreams. Easier to fall asleep cause of over-tiredness. Easier to go right into a dream because of REM. Easier to stay asleep. Usually more vivid LDs cause of REM.

Also, I almost always have very vivid and long LDs when I don't get much sleep and have to take a nap in the afternoon.

I did something similar once. I heard that if you're sleep deprived, you'll have a REM rebound, so I stayed awake for almost 24 hours before going to sleep.
After about 5 minutes, I could already feel SP coming. I had a pretty nice WILD after that.
