What do you mean "where did it go" if they're allowed to spend whatever amount of money they want? |

Three men want to rent a room (I don't know why, don't ask). The manager says it costs $30. They each pay $10 and go up to the room. The manager finds out he overcharged them. The room is only $25. He sends the bell-boy up with $5. The bell boy wonders how they will split $5 between three men, so he pockets $2 and gives them $3. |

Ohhh, I didn't understand the question the first time around. I thought he was saying that after all of that happened, the dudes went and arbitrarily spent some money with their credit cards or something. |

Okay so I read it a few million times, and have the same question : Is it a trick question? |

I wish I had more of them. Maybe I can find some. |

So I'm guessing the answer is in that the BB never told them exactly how much the room was. He just said they overpaid and gave them each a dollar back, keeping the two, basically charging them $27 for a $25 dollar room. I get it now. If he would have actually told them that the room was $25, he would not have been able to pocket the $2 without their noticing. |

The math is misleading. I just don't know how. |

Everything makes sense once you stop thinking about it
As explained above, it's quite simple. |
