Isn't there a lull in stimulating threads lately? Maybe it's just me. If we could get a good argument going here, that would be nice. |

Follow this woman down an underground flight of stairs, there you will meet a boatman. Give him a coin and he will ferry you to where you need to be. |

If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama
You've all got it wrong. |

I was actually thinking how sad it is that teachers teach the words to children in kindergarten and have them all chanting oaths and swearing themselves to America before they can even read. Good thing it's not binding. When I realized that in school, I just stood, I didn't say the words. I make a point to be careful with what I say, and I am not American-born. I do respect this country immensely, though, at least, the principles that are still standing. |

Sorry what? Every morning? When and why do you do this? I didn't know about this |

We despise all reverences and all the objects of reverence which are outside the pale of our own list of sacred things. And yet, with strange inconsistency, we are shocked when other people despise and defile the things which are holy to us. |

Yes, it is loonie land big time. I have always believed it to be crazy. I remember being three years old on my first day of nursery school and seeing the class do the Pledge of Allegience with their hands on their chests. I was thinking, "What is this weirdness about?" When I was in high school, the Pledge was said every time the school met in the auditorium, and I always refused to say it. I would either say nothing or say words that made a mockery of it. Saying the Pledge of Allegience is bizarre cult behavior, and I think it is insane. |

i know. this is kind of off topic, but does anyone else think that the american schooling system is more about teaching us not to question authority than teaching us anything we're going to need to know in the real world? It's the same thing with the pledge, it's like they've forgotten that it's about respect and now they're just brainwashing everyone into thinking the same as everyone else. |
|
I'd say I have to agree with you on that from a general point of view. I think the school system is flawed, and while that has been said a million times before by parents and disgruntled students, I doubt any of those student went out of their way to educate themselves on what they thought they would need later in life like I did. The classes were useless, I knew most of English and History off the top of my head, and I slacked. But that's a little off topic, what I am trying to say is that school is inefficient enough with the stucture it has now. The administrators were jerks, mainly because of all the anti-authority that all the students had in abundance, but still, I don't see any other way around having a brainwash structure to school. Man, only if people could actually want to go to school and be grateful. |

I dont think there's anything sad about not telling someone why having religion or not having religion is better. It's more pathetic to actually try and get your opinion out about Religion when there's no way you can prove to someone else whether it's true or not. It's completely pointless, no one will change their minds about their entire believe system because of someone's comment on a forum, and... |
