Conspiracy theorist? Lol. Unfortunately there are factions within this game. How many, I don't know. Perhaps one (or more) of these factions have made Mes their target.

If so...she doesn't have very long to live. Factions have proven themselves quite deadly within this game. Organized killing is smart...but I believe only weak people who can't stand alone need them to survive.
