No, Texas is a great deal like Mississippi. I know both. Mississippi has the element described in the OP, but there are lots of other major elements here. You can't judge the whole state by a gas station experience you had one time in South Jackson or something like that. What pecentage of black people are Republican rednecks? Mississippi is about 50% black. Jackson, the capital (where I live), had a black mayor until he died of a heart attack a few days ago, and the one before him was black. Do you want to argue that white racist rednecks voted them in? Hang out in the Fonderen district of Jackson some time, or spend a weekend in Oxford. You will get the impression that there are no rednecks in the state. Fonderen will have you thinking we are all a bunch of left wing hippy artists. If you spend some time in Madison or Northeast Jackson, you will think Mississippi is a rich snob state, and a lot of it is. Mississippi Burning and A Time to Kill are weak indicators of the big picture here. |
