I just got out of lockup
They fucking arrested me for "obstruction of pedestrian traffic" and "obstructing police procedure"
I got to spend the night in the county holding center BECAUSE I WAS SITTING ON A FUCKING BENCH!

I was at a concert and I was waiting for my friends to show up and they told me to get up off the bench(that was on public property) and when I asked them why, they cuffed me and threw me in the squad car.

Stupid move on your end. Power is everything. And you were on the wrong side of the scales.

One of my favourite sayings: "Might does not make right, but it does make the rules." Helps avoid such situations.

Or in other words: unless you have the power to force your will on others, you have no choice but to endure everything thrown at you; oppression, force, insults, whatever. Rights, freedoms and all that are an illusion. Those with more power will always control those who cannot fight against them.

And no matter how disgusted someone might be by such actions (like Coffeeboonen up there), it won't change anything. Appealing to rights and the legal system is weak. Either be wise enough to do what you are commanded by those who hold utter sway over you or work towards gaining enough power to hold sway over them. Complaining has never gotten anyone anywhere.

Oh, and I don't mean this in any offensive way either. Just stating it bluntly, heh.

Say, I run into a group of 5 thugs in the street who throw insults at me or whatnot.
I'll obviously pass it by silently. That's the wiser choice.
But if it were only one, I'd beat him into the ground.

It's all about odds. If you can't win, don't fight (be it physically or verbally). It isn't worth it.

Yeah Merlock, I know what you mean. I was just asking why they wanted to move... I was actually up and starting to walk when I got grabbed.

I went in to court at 10am, and my public defender got the case dismissed on the grounds of (my words, not hers) "It's a bullshit charge"... but using legal terms.

I'm gonna talk to my mom's lawyer to see if I have any legal recourse against them because of unlawful arrest and detainment. Because AFAIK I didn't actually break any laws.

I do have to say, they found my bowl and grinder, but didn't charge me for that. So I guess I can't complain too much.
A dirty pipe is a felony in NY.

It's something they might bring up in court if you do decide to try them.. I can't imagine how they'd let you off with that, but you ought to be thankful it was just a night in that holding cell, and not seven years behind bars.

Not that you don't have reason to be angry with them regardless.

Not all cops are dicks. In fact, I don't think most cops are dicks at all. It's just the ones that are dicks that stand out and give the others a bad name. Saying all cops are bad is no better than saying all blacks are serial killers. But maybe it's just in my neck of the woods that the majority of cops are good people.

The police are extremely incompetent and stupid. I have stories...

But ya the cops are lyers too, if you go to court they'll lie their arses off be sure to bring a few witnesses.

Once the piggs came to my place and they claimed they had my prints all over a stolen car. Thing is they dont got my prints on record so how could they even know they were mine?

From what I've seen (which ain't much), police "quality" is indirectly proportional to the population of their jurisdiction. The handful of cops in a small town or rural county are generally better people than those in a rather large city.

In smaller towns, everybody knows the local cop, his family, and all of his friends. Likewise, the local cop in a small town knows many of the people in his jurisdiction on a personal level. So if a cop abused his power in a small town, he would rub a bunch of people the wrong way. Since he doesn't want to earn a bad rap in what is likely to be his hometown, he is a lot more cautious with the way he wields his power.
In my county, we only have 2 policemen who aren't a part of the state highway patrol, and one of them is usually off-duty. One of my neighbors had a little weed in his backyard that wasn't really hurting anything, and the sheriff said, "don't let the stateys [state highway patrol] catch you with that," like he really didn't care at all.

But the police in a large city are more "faceless" in that they don't have as many personal connections compared to the total population. Since they have a greater degree of anonymity, they can get away with abusing their power.

i think you can sew (is that how you spell it?) them for that. it is a right as a citizen to know what you are being stopped or why you are told to do something. what that police officer did was basically take away your rights, and although he is in the police, he doesnt have power to bend the law, and he should be fired or at least suspended for doing that. but if you are telling us the truth then you have a good case on your hands which he cannot win.

i hate corrupt cops.

I've mostly had pretty reasonable (I hesitate to say "positive") experiences with police, including the one time I spent a night in jail. The two times I've encountered dick cops, I basically stood my ground and 'demanded' more reasonable behavior via tone and body language. Actually, it's the same way I've dealt with people trying to rob or attack me

I learned early in life that the way to deal with unreasonable aggression is to be firm but not aggressive, calm but not submissive, and it's kept me in one piece so far.

That's definitely true, as I live in the epitome of a small rural town. The problem occurs when you get the state troopers passing by who have an insatiable appetite for meddling in your business. I was... erm... playing Rolemasters with a few friends, a game which we concluded at around 12:30 A.M. So I'm heading to my car, which was parked beside the sidewalk (He lives in a cul de sac, if that makes it easier to visualize) and this car pulls up behind mine. I didn't think much of it and was just about to pull away when he flashes his lights. My first thought was, "how the hell did I get pulled over when I'm not even moving." He gets out of the car and approaches mine, doesn't even ask for license and registration, and tells me to get out of the car. I asked why, and he just reiterated "get out of the car." So I get out, and he goes back to his car, I'm assuming he ran my plate numbers or something. He comes back and says, "Sir, would you allow me to search your vehicle?" I said, "No, I don't consent. You have no grounds of suspicion." He then walked back to his car, did something (talked to someone?) for like five minutes (his doors and windows were closed so I couldn't hear, and it was too dark to make out what he was doing). After that he gets out and asks for my license and registration, I gave both to him and he spends another 3 minutes in his car doing something. He comes out, hands both back to me, and says "I don't want to see you out this late any more." I told him that I could legally drive at this time, to which he replies "this town has a curfew." I didn't say anything back to him at the time and drove home, but does walking from a house to a car parked 40 feet away break a curfew?

Fuck, I'm so tired of all those assholes coming down here during the summer. This is the second time this month I've been pulled for absolutely nothing. At least both times all I got was a verbal warning, I'm pretty sure if I was issued a ticket for anything it would end up as my word versus the cops, and I'm pretty sure I know who'd win.
