do you recomend a "normal" sleep shedual? or can being overly tired help?

I've always stayed up until i get dead tired, otherwise i have trouble sleeping.

I usually stay up 24+hours then I get a good sleep, i get the best sleeps/dreams when i fight off a few sleep attacks and finally give in to one. feels like opiates in a healthy way, haha.

and i've got the theory that being so tired when i finally do sleep, helps me stay in dreams when things get crazy or when going %100 lucid - this use to wake me up.

I'm considering trying to get on a "normal person" sleep shedual for a while but I'm curious how it will affect things. For all I know it will benefit my dreams now.

Best Sleep Schedule

Hi,

I am a newbie, but after reading an article (by Dreamviews), I wanted to add my experience as pertains to your question.

I have noticed that my best success seems to come when I go to bed on time. I believe I have more control over my mind in my sleep when sleep doesn't have such control over my mind.

Here is my formula for lucid dreaming and controlling my dream:

1. Experience what you want to dream about during the day. If you want to fly, throw a glider; watch a video of hang gliding, or something of the sort.

2. Be well rested going to sleep. Consume banana, milk, or turkey (for the triptophan your body turns to seratonin). Sleepy vs. exhausted

3. Imagine what you want to dream as you go to sleep; don't let this keep you awake though. This should be easy for many of you.

4. Once asleep, you have to realize you are dreaming.

Sometimes this comes from remembering that you dreamed the night before and did not capitalize on an opportunity. Telling your conscious that you lost opportunity the previous night offers your subconscious a file to access while sleeping. Eventually you can be sleeping and say to yourself, "Hey, this is familiar. This is my chance!"

Once you say that, you may find you wake yourself. That is OK. I find I tell myself to do what I want to do before I wake up. Once you tell yourself to start flying or whatever it is you want to do, you will be thinking of flying instead of "not waking yourself up." That is the next step to success.

As I read in the article that got me here, speaking in your dream is extremely powerful. If you can speak what you want in a dream, you'll likely get what you want--possibly even before you finish saying what you want.

This is just my personal experience, but I hope it works for you. If you imagine the same thing night after night, you may become less effective in dreaming about what you want. Dream about flying or meeting the person you want to meet in a new scenario to encourage you to dream on your desired topic.

Often, you won't actually experience any semblance of what you want to dream; furthermore, you may not get any seratonin in your system. No biggie; having said that though, I want to recap with the short version.

1. Be well rested.
2. Imagine what you want to dream as you go to sleep.

Lucid dreaming now is just a matter of realizing you are dreaming and knowing you CAN effect your dreams.

I hope I was clear, and that this helps someone. I'd be interested to know.

Good advice rman.

I feel like a normal sleep schedual makes it easier. I have the most lucids when I WBTB, which isn't exactly normal, but I think the reason I have them then is because I'm already partially rested. When your ttoo tired it's hard to focus on anything and hard to be really aware of what you are doing. This is pretty much what lucidity is, being aware, being conscious, while asleep. When sleep a little you just have more energy to dream.

But I also think that when you stay up like 24-36 hours you can have really vivid dreams because your rem cycles kind of build off each other, I don't have a clue what's happening from a scientific perspective, just what I've experienced.

Also you might wanna move this to sleep and health or attaining lucidity, or some other sub-forum, this one is more about doing things in LDs. Probably get more responses there.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

Well I have become lucid when I go to bed extremely late. Another memeber started a thread about whether sleep deprivation makes one more likely to become lucid. And I believe it does. I don't believe have such a shitty sleep schedule is healthy. I'll stay up late monday and wednesdays, because I don't have class the next day. But the other days I got to bed by 11.
Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

Thanks for your response. I logged back in to edit for content as I realized it became the wrong place to post. I guess now I should just move the post, though I don't think I can really move this particular one. Sorry.

Oh no, somewhat true, your advice was more general than about sleep schedules, but I was talking to Mud. If he posted this somewhere else hed probably get more responses.

Same here. I'm always staying up as late as I can until I get so tired, my dad has to carry me upstairs. I can't sleep unless I'm tired, and normally my mind is like a highway. It has tons of stuff racing around and intercepting thoughts. I try to go to sleep on time, but I always end up laying in bed until I get tired. I think it's best for you when you feel like you have to go to sleep. Don't force yourself to last one more hour, your brain is telling you, "I'm going to fail you if you don't let me rest!" But I'm exactly like you. Unless I am tired, I can't go to sleep. If I go to sleep early, I'll close my eyes and I'll open them back up thinking, "I'm wide awake! How can I go to sleep?"

Well... considering last night I went to bed 3 hours later than I normally do on a school night (even though I had a snow day) because there wasn't any hot water, and then I got my first extended lucid dream, I'd say being overly tired might have an affect on it.

Thanks for the input, folks.

getting on a normal schedule is easy enough for me, staying on it is nearly impossible.

I'll report back any worthwhile notes after I achieve a steady schedule longer than a week.
Can't think of the last time i even made it a week. hm.

I read that your mind races at night if you don't get things done during the day or your overly stressed. People who get things done and don't have a lot of worries, have a more restfull nights sleep. I've definatly noticed this to be true for me. If there was something I wanted to do and I was either to scared or axious to do it, my mind will race at night wishing I had done whatever it was I didn't do. Damn that was a long sentence. I think that was a run-on sentence hahah. I think that's what its called lol.
Uuuwww I'm post most #11 and I have 11 LDs and my lucky number is 11. Maybe I'll have a lucid tonight. And I've never said uuuwww before hahah. I can ramble on al night. I'm in a good mood.

PM one of the mods, they can move it for you.

I think if you can get on a normal scheduale even if it's just most of the time it helps, at least for me. Even if you have one or two days a week when you stay up really late it should help. And then you'll also have the contrast of different types of sleep on different days, might make you more aware of your dreams.

moved.

and yeah, a normal schedule seems to help with over all dreaming but not lucidity.
which is fine for me right now anyway, so maybe it's me and not the schedule.
lately i've enjoyed the threat of death and what not.
