Thread: Hypic Jerks

I believe most people get them in the same way as you do, I haven't had one in a while but as you're falling asleep you'll start to fall into hypnagogic hallucinations, or basically a dream scene starting to form as you're still semi-concious. The hypnic jerks happen in what is sort of the final stages of a WILD, but unintentionally. This used to happen to me all the time until I started trying to WILD

Yes, this happens to almost everyone at some point in their life. Like you are dreaming and then something comes flying at you or you are falling and you jump off your bed or something. One time someone screamed right in my ear in a dream and I almost fell off my bed :p

I think you mean hypnic jerk.

A hypnic jerk, hypnagogic jerk, sleep start, or night start, is an involuntary myoclonic twitch which occurs during hypnagogia, just as a person is beginning to fall asleep, often causing him or her to awaken suddenly. Physically, hypnic jerks resemble the "jump" experienced by a person when startled,[1] often accompanied by a falling sensation.[2] A higher occurrence in people with irregular sleep schedules is reported.
