Need motivation/tips to go sleep earlier

So yeah, school's starting in a few weeks and I can remember from the last year that I stayed up very long each school day and only had around 5-7 hours of sleep per day. Which makes me very tired in the mornings which keeps me tired the first hours of the school day.

I need tips on how I can get to sleep earlier so I can sleep better and not be so tired during the start of the day.

I am aiming for 8+ hours of sleep per day. I sleep 8-10 hours during weekends (I try to keep it below 10).
My main problem is, I don't go to sleep because I ain't tired. I get tired too late which results in this small amount of sleep.

      Note:
"Just go to sleep earlier" doesn't work for me, because I ain't tired and it usually takes me 30min to 2 hours to fall asleep if i go to bed earlier.

Exercise! I'm working as a construction worker and I am ready to fall asleep at 8 PM usually. This is because my job is so physically demanding that I'm exhausted when night comes. Start jogging, hitting the gym or swimming and you'll fall asleep like a baby. I've been home sick from work for a few weeks and every day I went to bed later and later. It's a real pain to fall asleep aswell, so I'm sure it's the lack of exercise that keeps you up. That and perhaps consistent sleeping times.

Thank you, I have been thinking about starting gym / jogging. Will probably do that when school starts.

Just go to bed earlier even if you aren't tired. Lay in bed and try to fall asleep. Eventually your body will adjust and you will be able to fall asleep. Make sure you try to fall asleep and wake up at the same time everyday too. Like Matte said, exercising in the day will get you more tired during the night. Just be sure not to do it at least an hour before you go to bed. It could keep you awake as well

Anyway good luck! I am going to be doing the same as you and try to get more sleep this school year.

Thank you Mancon, I know that i shouldn't eat or exercise before going to bed cause that may make it harder to fall asleep.
