It has not happened recently but it has happened at least 5 times in the past. So, when I get really tired and go to bed I iwll wake up later in the middle of night really relally frightened. I am shaking and in a cold sweat and its almost like sleepwalking but I am barely concious. I also have memories of what happened when I wake up the next morning. It pretty much goes like this: I wake up and everything is spinning, also things that are to big or to small frighten me even more. I sit and try to gain my bearings but I am crying and can't get my breath, i then drudge down the hall way to getI
help from my parents. Most of the time I am to afriad to wake them up. but When I do my dad always comes out and try's to wake me up. he now knows what to do when this happens and he gets a damp rag for me to put on face. This usually calms me down after 5 minutes and I am able to go back to bed. So does anyone have any ideas of what this is? It really hasn't happened recently at all, but it came to mid after I read about other people sleep problems.

I think that sounds like Night terror, used to have them too.

      [extract from Wikipedia]
A night terror, also known as pavor nocturnus, is a parasomnia sleep disorder characterized by extreme terror and a temporary inability to regain full consciousness. The subject wakes abruptly from the fourth stage of sleep, with waking usually accompanied by gasping, moaning, or screaming. It is often impossible to fully awaken the person, and after the episode the subject normally settles back to sleep without waking. A night terror can occasionally be recalled by the subject. They typically occur during non-REM sleep

Ok, well thanks, If this doesn't happen during REM then is totally un-dream related? And yah that sounds like a perfect description.

It's possible you go through an episode of Night Terror during Rem period, but it's rare.

iv had stuff like this aswell, often when i have a fever.. i get totally dilusional and im scared of some pointless thing, like there is some paper that gets all wrinkled up.. and that freaks me out.. makes no sense. iv allso had right b4 i fall into sleep, im kinda half sleeping, and i get a random thought that suddenly starts to scare me, and i feel like my world is falling appart cus of that thought..

i found out that drinkin milk usually calmed me down (no idea why), and if u just sit up and relax/try to sort ur thoughts it goes away
