Bro on the EveryMan polyphasic schedule :-]

Thanks to Sara and Kromoh for getting me interested in Polyphasiac napping/sleep. Thanks guys! :p

This is where I'll be keeping a record of my now polyphasiac schedule...I don't know where I'm going with it, but I'm getting into it.

Hope to have you all visit.

Ah, yes, I'm short on time now but I'll be updating with my first experiences later.

Hey, good idea to keep a journal about it!
It is very good for your motivation and interesting for us to read your progress.

I looked back in my personal sleep log and see a lot of room for improvement, so maybe I'll copy your idea

Hey thanks for the great responses everyone!

      ______________________________________

      So....here I go.

-I'll do my best to update towards the end of each day...my time. That will be pretty much just before the beggining of the "core" sleep of 3 hours and after my (hopefully) three 20-25 minute naps.

-I Don't expect to have any dream recall for some time, though I hope to reap the benefits as this progresses...from what I understand,(I apologize If I'm wrong again experienced "Everyman"ers) a certain amount of sleep deprivation kicks in, I'll feel like sh*t for a while, and the little naps I'll be taking will be utilized, ideally, solely for REM sleep. Good WILD'ing I hear, once accustomed. This is my inspiration....

-I'm used to about 9 hours sleep a night to be honest, if not a few hours more...so this is an ENORMOUS change...I'm on it though, my attitude is, "the quicker, the better".

-Please follow along with me if you like, any imput or comments are more than welcome. I'll need a bit of support

-Ah yes, and a key so that you might follow in detail. Hmm, to be creative but not painful to the eyes.

      Key:

Dates will be in -------------------->...this Bold type

Nap and core sleep times will be in...
      this Brown (ish) color

My own comments or feelings will be in this orange (ish) color

Ah, good to have found this thread. It'll be fun reading this in a kind of dream journal layout. Three hours of core sleep . . . wow. I sincerely hope you reap the benefits promised, as anyone willing to adjust to such a schedule deserves it.

You should do a daily grouchiness scale - 1-10.

Great Idea! If I can function enough to do that, I certainly will..I'm not sure what effects this is going to have on cognitive abilities.

Thanks for coming Strinky..I'm off to end my first day (or begin it, however you want to think about it) with another 25 minute nap..will be doing my first entry in another hour or so...provided everything goes according to plan.

See you soon, and wish me not so crabby days.

Core sleep= 3:00am- 6:00amJust feeling a bit groggy, is all...the feeling is leaving as the day goes on

      1st Nap=
      8:40 am-9:00am(attempted)

I'm not accustomed to this. I layed down, but had to be up for an appointment, out of the house at
9:30 am. My heart was pounding though tired. No nap acheived.

      2nd nap=
      3:40pm-4:00 (approx) pm

This worked quite nicely. I woke feeling rested strangely enough. I did not feel like I slept deeply but rather a slight tinge of awareness the whole time. I had to be out again at around
4:15 pm so I was a bit tense, but managed this nap.

      3rd nap=9:30 pm-9:55 pm

I fell asleep rather quickly with this one...nothing to report except a short bit of unsatisfactory sleep.

      _____________________________________________

Well, as could be expected, I was on a bit of a high all day long...now I'm feeling the effects.
      -No nap dream activity

*Feeling very tired... though not the same sick feeling as if I've skipped a night of sleep.
*senses on high alert...tired and desiring sleep but at the same time aware of everything occuring around me.
*Not feeling terribly optimistic about this though I know it's way too soon to judge.

      Thoughts

I am fairly sure the effects of Sleep deprivation will begin to kick in over the next day or so...I feel them slightly now but nothing like I know they'll be. I'm not impatient with the dreams as I know it takes a good chunk of time to become accustomed to this schedule.

      Good luck to me.

      Wow. You're one brave guy.

GO BRO! You can do it.

Once you get into the swing of it I hear it's easy to maintain if you have a daily schedule that will allow for the scheduled naps.

      Thanks Vex Kitten...I'm flattered.

I truly appreciate the encouragement...let's me see it in a better light.

Ah, I'm glad to hear you think it won't be so hard to adjust...i've heard varying opinions on this though...guess I'll have to figure it out myself.

Good to see you here Vex, hope you'll stay nearby.

*From the looks of it, beggining core sleep at 3 am is far too late. I think I'm going to play around with this time within a range of about an hour or two. The naps so far seem to rejuvenate me, but I feel the core sleep is not positioned properly...

      I'll note any adjustments

Since it's winter break and classes don't start up again until mid january you've inspired me to do this too, at least for a month. Hope you're having fun so far I've heard those first couple of days are the hardest to do.

I'm glad! The more people on this the better...less people think the few polyphasics are crazy.

We'll be able to relate and hopefully exchange some advice and experiences.

The inspiration goes around my friend, clearly. I was inspired by some very helpful members. and so far...well, i'll make a separate post on that.

Hope to read of your experiences too, I'll be looking at your thread as well.

It's now just about 2:30 am on Tues 12/18/07...I've been keeping busy until now...getting progressively more tired, but not to the point where I feel sick...to the point of my eyelids slowly forcing themselves shut. Motivational music I have going as well. (Currently Queen's "I want to Break Free".
I'll be heading off for the core 3 hours now (ish)...I think I'm going to tweak this time to be a bit earlier. 3 am is a bit too far off from my last nap.

I'll report back tommorow (later today) on my progress and condition.

*keeping a close eye for any dream-action though I doubt that will show up for a while now.

Sweet dreams and good luck to those others on the same schedule (and not on it)

I'm going to shift my core sleep closer to 1:30 or 2 am I think.

I'll be giving a full update later but for now:

Tues 12/18/07 (how i'm feeling after my core sleep and short nap)

-Feeling strangely aware again...this seems a bit like a "rush" or a "high" that comes with sleep deprivation. As far as I can tell, this starts to go to hell at around 12:00 am as I begin the "crash".

-had a "lucid nap" unintentionally as my first nap of the day for about 25 minutes. I extended my alarm time to about 35 minutes after I lay down as it takes me around 10 to fall asleep. I woke up wholly satisfied as much of the nap had me going lucid, in and out of dream scenes....nothing too involving, but a step in the right direction. You can read of this in my dream journal.

-I'm feeling like i've been awake all night..again that "high" and not so tired per se but a strange, nocturnal feeling...as if the day's lasted far longer than 24 hours.

-I value the nap-times alot because as short as they are...they feel re-juvenating.

-I hope this luck will keep up. I think it's a good sign.

It's about 6:15 pm and I've so far today had just over 3 hours of sleep...perhaps 3 hours and 20 minutes. I barely slept in my second nap. I wonder if anyone could fill me in, is it un-wise to skip my third nap and go right to core sleep? perhaps I have not hit enough sleep deprivation to make 3 naps possible I may discover over time that 2 longer naps as opposed to 3 shorter naps, work better.

-Feeling just the slightest bit tired and perfectly aware...cetainly not like I cut my sleep more than half, to about a third of what it was.

      Update soon.

      Hey Bro,
Sorry, but I don't have any insight on your question :/. I was just stopping by to say good luck, and give you a bit of encouragement. I'm going to be trying this out during winter break, and seeing that you could do it so far without going insane or being over tired has been a bit of encouragement to me . Anyways, best of luck to you. Don't give up on it too soon

      12/18/07 Tues

Today was interesting and gave me some results to think about. I utterly messed up the nap times though I think tommorow will be better.

      Core= 3:30 am-6:30 am

I woke groggy from this, but quickly settled into the "high" of sleep deprivation. Various emotions were stirring about in my head but except for one fragment, I had no dreams recorded. I'm certain there was dream activity in this core sleep.

      1st nap= 9:00 am-9:25 am (maybe 9:30)

As I stated in my earlier post, this nap was amazing. Ideal results. I felt intense dream activity and was lucid for a good portion of the nap, perhaps a third (10 minutes). My lucidity was faint, but there, and I was even able to generate some dream scenes just by imagining them. A very unique lucid experience...I woke from time to time in SP and sunk right back in..ultimately to wake with my alarm. The lucid dreams that seemed to be on and off through this nap were not particularly vivid, but they were 3 dimensional scenes and I was aware...the length was what impressed me...for once it seemed as if my body was not trying to force itself awake, I was able to sink in quicker. No doubt the sleep deprivation is benefiting me in this respect. I'm going to think about tweaking my schedule a bit more as it's still up in the air

      2nd nap (attempted) = 3:00 pm- ?

I layed down at this time and really was quite pumped. I don't know if it was just the S.D (this may not be a proper abbreviation, but I'll use it here) playing games with my head or excitement over dreaming, but I could not fall asleep...I layed there a bit drowsy, but with that strange sense of awareness that I'm feeling constantly now...didn't allow me to fall asleep. I think with more training and perhaps a bit more unpleasent S.D, this will even out.

      3rd nap (Not attempted)

The high and energy is lasting far into the evening and I figure i'll skip this one. I know this is not wise, but I think perhaps I'm not at the right stage of deprivation yet due to my energy level. I'll begin with the core sleep tonight and try to get all 3 naps in tommorow. (Though I'm thinking of attempting 2 30 minute naps as opposed to 3 20 minute naps...).

*I feel...hmm, I don't know what I feel. Different that's for sure..I'm going to try to keep this up for a while. I don't know for how long, but I'll be updating so you'll be able to monitor if you like.
Today I saw lots of potential and I know there will be ups and downs, but i'm willing to stick with this for a while.

Today was not a great day of my EveryMan schedule. I overslept to around 5 hours as opposed to a maximum of 3 I've been trying to keep to. I only got one nap in as I figured if I get all 3 in today, it will defeat the purpose of the deprivation, and thus, the enhanced REM sleep. I also was distracted by some responsibilities.

I'm going to try harder to keep to the reccomended sleep intervals.

      Core Sleep= 3:00 am- (approx) 8:00 am.

My core sleep here felt very active. As though it was an ongoing adventure. No lucid activity but a fair amount of dream activity...not mundane themes as I usally have but more interesting, far-fetched topics. I accidently overslept but plan to get back on the right schedule tonight.

      Nap 1= 4:30 pm- approx 4:55/5:00 pm

Towards this time, I was not feeling tired but I figured it would be wise to nap to keep a semblance of the polyphasic schedule going. I woke feeling groggy and crabby, like there had been dream activity, but not interesting...just waking with fatigue.

      Nap 2

      Skipped

      Nap 3

      Skipped
      __________________________________________________ _____________
*It's difficult for me to predict my exact schedule but I'm going to (for the time being) work on keeping to the core sleep schedule and the naps...spacing them evenly throughout the day, as best I can.

*Feeling the now-familiar sensation of fatigue..eyes a bit heavy but nothing too hard to deal with.

Hoping for more vigilence and determination tonight and perhaps some lucid luck .

Sounds like you're doing great. Keep trying to stick with it. I'm pullin for you.

Your naps are making me terribly jealous. That's my favorite kind of lucid.

Be sure to keep eating right. Wacky blood sugar ups and downs will put you out quicker than anything.

Hey man, thanks! Your comments are a great inspiration believe it or not.

The naps..yes! I wish it was always that easy...I take it you read the dream?

Ah and yes, food. Big issue for me..have a tendency to just not eat, so i'm working on keeping it all nice and balanced...none of this veggie-fasting stuff though for me.

*Getting strong waves of fatigue from time to time...have to be careful.

      12/20/07

Today I woke from my core sleep a bit late...the loud music I have rigged on my speakers no longer does the job...will have to use sheer willpower to get out of bed otherwise I will loose the benefit f being abl to get into REM so quickly during a nap. The night was rather uneventful except for a few fragment, but I had a "Lucid Nap". You can read of this experience in my dream journal.

      Core= 3:00 am- 7:15/7:30 am (overslept)

Again, there were a few fragments here and there recorded in my dream journal, but nothing too interesting....

Nap 1= 11:50 am-12:05 (approx) (did not mean for this to be so short)

I slid my eyesmask on and was able to go right into HI, a floating void and soon made my way into a fully lucid dream..utter control and clarity..the ideal WILD.
If you're interested in reading this, it's in my dream journal. The whole nap lasted maybe 15 minutes time, at most...I woke wholly satisfied and refreshed with this success. Excited to record my dream!

      Nap 2= 9:30pm-11:00 pm. (Overslept)(Aprrox)

Bah, I meant to only sleep a half hour, tops...but the music failed to wake me again until nearly 2 hours later...no dream activity to record...this nap made me feel more groggy.

Nap 3 (skipped due to time mess-up)

*I have to work on getting some general times straight...and getting my ass out of bed when the alarm goes off...Also I have to work on getting in all 3 naps in the day...for the right amount of time in each one. I've had some success but perhaps a real routine for napping would help, and give my regular attempts better chances for success, though in some ways, the uncertainty of sleep times is what makes it exciting... I'll update you with what I decide to do.

      Good night
