Stretches help. Strengthening does too but stretches make a huge difference. Including taking short breaks (takes less than a minute) while your working to stretch. Point your fingers up and then pull them back gently, point them down and push them in gently (keep the fingers straight) every couple hours or when your wrist starts to feel stiff. There are more complicated ones that I do. I have a damaged right wrist from falling off a horse that results in not only carpal tunnel but other pain issues. For awhile it hurt 24/7 and even after 5 years it still hurt frequently. I started doing aikido which is a martial art that uses lots of joint locks. My wrist is twisted and bent to the point of pain, you tap when it hurts to make the person let go, and after a year I have almost no pain doing anything. When I started I thought it would be horrible for my wrist but it's turned out to be even better than physical therapy. The frequent extreme stretches have eliminated carpal tunnel and most of my other pain. I can play computer games for hours or type papers all day with no pain. |
