Does it matter when I do my sleeping?

      Hello everyone.

I have a couple of questions concerning my sleeping habits. I love to stay up late and sleep 'till noon, usually I sleep from 2-3 am to 11-13 am. But even though I get enough sleep (at least 8 hours!), I feel drowsy and am unable to concentrate much. This is bad because my Finnish A-levels are coming in two months and studying is almost impossible, due to my concentration problems and the fact that I tend to lose my will to do any work.

The odd thing is that I could run a marathon any time I wanted. My physical fitness doesn't suffer at all, but my main concerns are my mental abilities. I forget things and my friends compare me to a zombie, but I've noticed that I can think normally if I get no interference from the outside world and don't have to interact with it. Mind-blowing, isn't it?

So, does it matter _when_ one sleeps if that person has already been sleeping like it for two or three months? I normally sleep from 12 pm to 7 am schooldays, but it's holidays now and I don't have to worry about school. And if it doesn't matter when you sleep, could my problem be that I sleep very lightly in the mornings because my parents wake up usually around 9 am and the morning sun shines through my windows at sunrise?

edit. oh yeah, and the reason I don't go to sleep early (like 11 pm) due to my drowsiness is that my energy levels rise very high during the day. I feel tired from, let's say, 1 pm to 6 pm, but when the night comes, everything just cleares and I feel just fine. And with that amount of energy, I can easily stay up late and face the consequences in the morning, again.

I'm not an expert on the subject, but I'm pretty sure that every hour you get before midnight makes a difference on how you feel when you wake up. At least, in my experience. It doesn't always matter if you get 8 hours of sleep, what matters is which 8 hours of sleep you get.

Sounds like your school work just puts you to sleep . . .
