      Everyman and (High) School

      Hello everyone,

While this topic has come up a few different times in various topics, I haven't seen one specifically dedicated to it, so here it is.

Essentially, next year I'm gonna be a Junior in High School. While this is great, having that kind of schedule really prohibits the sleep schedules I can have.

As you might know (due to my earlier blog), I tried Biphasic sleep but found it wasn't conducive to my schedule, simply because I had to take a 90 minute nap. However, a few 20 minute naps would be perfectly fine and I could take them at the same time almost every day, and if I did have to shift it, it would be less than 1 hour, so no troubles there.

The only thing I'm worried about is the spacing. I'm not sure if it's possible to get the right amount of "cycles" and sleep using Everyman while going to school.

I would plan to take the core sleep of 3 hours right before school, maybe 4-7 am and then naps at 4:00 - 4:20, and two or three other times (I'm available for the rest of the night so any time works).

This, of course, leaves a 9 hour gap. Is that too long between the core and the first nap? I'd hate to have to have a core sleep of 4.5 hours because I think that It'd be defeating the purpose. So, is it "safe" for me to do the schedule proposed, or should I simply hold off till college? Suggestions?

      Thanks,
      Brandon

I would also be interested in an answer to this... I'm currently doing my final year of high school and I'm finding I don't have enough time during the day to do all the things I want to do as well as work.
Anyone want to suggest a good schedule for us?

      Uberman

I'm a sophomore in high school, and I have recently begun the Uberman sleep schedule. I think it would be possible to fit naps in during lunch, right after school and right before school. I really hope it will work for me because I take quite a few classes and I just can't keep up with the workload, as I'm in theater too

I can't fit a nap in school, and I certainly don't want to be on the uberman schedule, especially as a person under 18 who also has a social life. There is simply no way I'd be able to conform to that, and I also think the health effects would be negative. Nevertheless, good luck and let us know how it goes.

Well, I'll share some information that I've gotten from a few nice people.

Basically, the general consensus is that 15 or 16 is just too young of an age to start doing this and could stunt physical growth due to the lack of sleep.

For right now, I'm just going to wake up at a set time (6:00 am) and go to bed whenever my body tells me. This should reduce the amount of sleep and still make me more productive.

      Good luck,
      Brandon

From what I've heard, you shouldn't have more than 6 hours between naps, so I don't think so.

Also, if you're under 18, don't try it.

While it might allow you to stay awake, I would bet that it would be absolutely horrible for your body. Nevertheless, it's up to you, so if you decide to, let us know how it goes.

The stunting your growth thing is a real possibility to consider.

I would strongly suggest leaving these sorts of activities to breaks (summer, winter, etc) only. Lucid dreaming is cool, but putting your real life at risk because of it is bordering on unhealthy obsession.

I highly doubt that any of you will feel rested enough to keep up with your grades and with your social life.

You don't want to end up a homeless bum at 30 just for the sake of a handful of LDs in your teen years.

There are much better ways to achieve lucid dreaming at a busy time like this.

      Peace.

I did NOT want to do this because of lucid dreaming AT ALL. That was actually not even a factor in the least, it didn't weigh my decision in any way.

The reason I wanted to to do this was to have more time for different hobbies.

Nevertheless, I agree that it will be bad for my body so I'm not going to do it.

Same here i want to be able to lifeguard after school and do some diving on the weekend and still be able to finish my homework. I mean even if i only get 4 hours of extra time. 4 hours would be an insane amount of time to spend on homework. Even the most insane nerds only spend 2 hours at the most.

You probobly wouldn't get too much LD out of polyphasic. Its only 20 minutes...only so much you can do. Although you would get some insanely vivid archetypal dreams. When i have been able to successfully take a 20 minute nap ive had some pretty simplistic yet vivid dreams. They are usually very basic low level archetypes...which is kind of cool if you ask me....

But remember if ur vividly dreaming than your doing it right cause that means than your in REM. And in REM you do ahve some outside feeling but you just kinda ignore it and your body is paralyzed.

      My Rant

      False.
I don't know what grade your in, your course load, or where you go to school, but I have to do homework every moment I'm awake, and I'm still behind. I get home from school at around 5:30, and do homework until 11:30. I can go to sleep at 11:30 because I procrastinate on all of my long term assignments until the weekend. I also have school on Saturdays. I get home around 2:00 Saturday and work until I go to sleep. I wake up naturally Sunday and work until I go to sleep and then repeat the process.

So, I'm a junior taking straight advanced classes and I go to private school, but still. I usually spend 2 hours on each SUBJECT and I don't have every class every day.

This week I stayed home sick on Tuesday and I worked the entire day. Now it's Wednesday, and I'm behind. I hear college is easy. I can't wait. If you are getting less than 2 hours a night on homework, though, you'll be in for a real treat in the future.

      Thus ends my rant.

P.S. I also should not be writing in my DJ seeing as I need all rest I can get, but what the hell.

Yeh dude that is insane, I think you either work slow or aren't organised.
I seriously barely ever did homework. Probably not the best thing but I got most of my work done in class. If the teacher is talking bullshit or something just start doing your homework. No good in working non-stop. You need play hehe

I probably procrastinate on forums too much...
w/e only 1 year 10 months until college, I'm ready.
I have final exams in two days...
I am just writing random thoughts that pass through my head to procrastinate my studying. I should stop.
      I will stop.

EDIT: Oh, sorry about that rant. I was just really overwhelmed with work, and I wanted to vent...

I had 2 AP classes as a sophomore, and then 6 AP classes each of the next two years. In those three years I never once spent more than 5 minutes on homework. And I got 5's on every exam.
