      Talking to myself

Hey, I have an unusual thing that sometimes happens to me and I am wondering if others get this or if it is a mental problem or what. :\

The unusual occurence is that when I am in bed and tired, my mind starts thinking differently than usual and sometimes I think something in one kind of voice and then I answer it, basically, I have small conversations with myself without pausing to think about what I am saying or doing. I do not actually say these things out loud thank God. Yes, the voices are mine, they are not demonic or angelic or belong to any other kind of being that I know of, they are my voice.

Does anybody else have a similar kind of experience happen to them or anybody know what this is?

You just get really tired and talk to yourself. Don't sweat it. It happens to me two. You can't exactly talk to anybody else, can you?

Yeah but it isn't just the usual talking to yourself, it's as if I am two and sometimes even three different people having a conversation.

Hmm... Well, that happens to, but much less often. I generally try to do it when writing, to give my characters more depth. I guess you have a natural talent for character making. Or you have multiple personality disorder(which is highly unlikely.)

Well, I am definitely hoping that it is the first explanation as I am thinking of making myself a career as a writer of both fiction and non-fiction.

I have a pyschologist and I am going for a first meeting with a pyschiatrist and will bring it up there just in case.

After researching the symptoms, I cannot remember just about any of my childhood (I'm currently 14, nearly 15) apart from some very vague kind of screenshots. The bodily dissociation, I do not have this really, I can willingly make my body feel very weird by getting very still for 5 seconds and then just thinking about it, it kind of feels like it's tensed but it isn't and it also feels like it is relaxed but it isn't. I don't think that classes as dissociation however. I do sometimes look at things and it appears that it is changing or moving in some way but I thought everybody got this from time to time. My personality can change very rapidly and very differently, when my personality changes, so does my emotions and it is as if some emotions appear and others get barred out depending on the current type of personality.

My psychologist says that I have social anxiety disorder, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder though, it is possible that those symptoms come from them.

I took a personality disorder test and here are the results, I am not sure if multiple personality disorder falls into any of these categories or not.

      Disorder Rating
      Paranoid: High
      Schizoid: Moderate
      Schizotypal: High
      Antisocial: Moderate
      Borderline: Very High
      Histrionic: Low
      Narcissistic: Low
      Avoidant: Very High
      Dependent: Very High
      Obsessive-Compulsive: Moderate

Oh, I don't know whether it could be related or not but when I was a child I used to think that my family members could see my thoughts if they wanted to and see out of my eyes. I still feel this a little but not really, it has instead developed into me thinking that the 'presence' or 'aura' of a person is with me and watching me, they can sometimes see my thoughts and can sometimes see out of my eyes. I come from a pyschic family but I do not believe that this is actually happening.

Lol, ok, this is getting a bit off topic anyway seeing as I posted this in health that is connected with sleep. I'll talk about it to a professional in a few weeks and see what is going on, thanks for sharing your views on what the explanations could be.

There is a very fine line seperating "normal" people from mad people.

Everyone has internal monlogues and dialogues(voices in the head). The only thing that seprates "normal" and mad people is that mad people think out loud.

Since you don't think out loud, you're a "normal" person, just like the rest of us.

I sometimes talk out loud to myself too. I'm answering my own questions that I ask myself in my head. Somehow the thought behind the answer feels stronger and more real when I say it out loud.

I'm not actually saying these things out loud though and it doesn't really seem like it is me talking to myself. It seems like there are multiple people inside of my head talking to each other but in my voice, it is as if I am a mere observer of this conversation that is going on.

I have severe anxiety with a little OCD mixed in for good measure
      I have an avoidant personality.

I talk to myself out loud and silently. I have running dialogues through my head all hours of the day when I'm not engaged in some activity (I'm a gaming addict, listen to the radio or watch TV a lot to distract myself from my thoughts).
I obsess over scenarios. Let's say I'm going to go to church and I expect I'll have to talk to someone. I'll replay every possible conversation through my head, talking for myself and the other person until I'm happy with the results. I obsess over upsetting people, so I want to make sure I don't say something that can be misunderstood or hurtful.
I see a psychiatrist every 2-4 weeks and before I see him, I do the same thing.
I do it to such an extent that sometimes people think I'm eerie for my "ability" to know what they're going to say or do before they do.

I take Ambien or Melatonin to go to sleep. My brain never shuts up and the conversations keep me awake (I've been known to fall asleep sitting up in front of a computer or TV but once I go to bed I can't sleep. The computer etc quiets my thoughts so I can sleep but once I'm away from it, my brain starts yammering away again )

So do you know what this is? It appears that I have the same as you but on a very small scale compared. (Conversation wise)

For me, it's a coping mechanism against my anxiety and mild OCD. I obsess over expressing myself incorrectly and being misunderstood, which triggers anxiety. Only after I've mentally gone over a multitude of conversation possibilities am I able to relax. But then I usually just leap to some other problem lol *sigh*
