Should I get an Iphone or an Android

I'm looking to get a new phone. I really want the iPhone 4, and I'm wondering how does it stack up to an android for around the same price range (100 bucks).

What do you want to do with it?

iPhone has the Apple advantage of software + hardware in one, so it works well together. Both have most of the same apps. With the advent of the app store, the OS is irrelevant. The software is irrelevant, its the hardware. Just compare the hardware. The iPhone 4S is geared as a gaming platform, it competes with PSP and Nintendo DS. It's probably the most powerful phone out there, Android has lots of different models, some more powerful than others.

Usually the reason I recommend Apple is customer service. If an Android malfunctions, do you call Google? I'm not even sure. A Genius will fix your problem for free, Apple is one of the few companies to offer free support.

iPhone, definitely... iOS 5 is fantastic and you can't beat the combination of great hardware and software, though I'm sure for the price that should be expected. Siri isn't bad either, though I'm sure it'll get better with future updates.

As long as you go with a higher end device, Android definitely. It kills in comparison to customization and user functionality. Sure, iOS has things the Android doesn't (but that doesn't mean you can't find an alternative that does just that and possibly better) 95% of the iPhone market is paid applications. (I think we can make a decision based off just that) Also there are a wide variety of Lucid Dreaming applications such as my personal favorite "Lucid Dreaming App" from a fellow Dream Views member Alexander Stone. It is an extremely advanced piece of software that includes sleep tracking through actigraphy and it even tracks when you have your REM cycles. This application is extremely advanced and may be a bit much to take in at first but after a few days of setting it up it will become one of your favorite LD softwares. Other pieces of software include Lucid Dreamcatcher (A dreamjournal on your Android!) and Lucid Dreamer by Guaranis that plays bineural beats after a set amount of time such as 45 minutes (So you can fall asleep before they play )

I have a Samsung Epic 4G and I am extremely content with it - The performance is like no other, and the screen is just brilliant. Best thing about Android? It's open-source.

      Good luck in your decision

I'm not that big on apps. Most of the ones I had on older phones I paid for anyway. Games would be good, and yeah...good customer service on the phone. I've heard at least two stories this year about people taking weeks to get their phone fixed because the company couldn't do it.

Mind you, when I've taken my iMac to get repaired, it took a month. Not sure if they had to send it to another country or what, but it was ridiculous.

An iPhone Apple will usually just replace for you. If customer service and games are important to you, go with the iPhone. It's a much more powerful gaming platform because programmers like knowing exactly what type of hardware they are coding for. I haven't seen any android that stacks up to the graphics card of the iPhone. And you can't beat the geniuses, advice and software help is always free.

If you already own other Apple products (and like them) go with the iPhone. If you do not own other Apple products or have iCloud, there's really no benefit of having an iPhone over an Android, it's just a status symbol/"coolness" accessory without other Apple products (although that could be said for ALL Apple products, but when you have an iMac, iPad, iPhone, etc all together, iCloud makes shit real easy to manage.)

Also, you have to be able to make the price commitment to an iPhone; either with your money or your contract length.

When I got a smartphone I went with android due to ideologically disagreeing with Apple's closed platform. Another advantage with Android is that since the section is broader, you have a greater chance of finding a phone that looks sleek to you, and you can choose from a bigger prize-range. If you don't disagree with Apple, though, and think that iPhone is the hottest thing out there, there's no reason not to get it.

But do update us on your decision and it's motivation, once you've made it

Get an Android, you can customize just about....well everything on the phone. I actually play with phones a lot, and study them quite a bit. I rooted my Exhibit 2 4g earlier this week (Mid grade Android phone 512 mb RAM and 1 Ghz processor), and now I'm running a custom ROM that pretty much has enabled me to do anything on my phone that it previously wasn't allowed to do (due to T-mo).

iPhone is super restrictive, so if you like even having a nice different coloured notification for when you receive a text you might as well hurl yourself out a window now. Sure they look nice, and I guess they're cool. But Androids can and will do anything an iPhone can do, usually better (Not sure the specs on the iPhone but I highly doubt it has anything over a 1.5 Ghz processor, and there is Android phones with dual processors out there now) and for much cheaper if not COMPLETELY free.

Example: iPhone, I wouldn't have been able to bypass Tmo *Or any Carriers* bloatware or enable things the phone IS capable of that the network think you should pay extra for. [Think of it like buying a car, but if you want to use cruise control you need to pay 100 dollars a month] My phone ISN'T supposed to be a WIFI hotspot, it is, I'm not supposed to have a Tablet's OS/ROM/UI and yet I do. I can overclock my CPU, and processor.

And what can an iPhone do? Make a farting noise off an app that you spent $1.50 on?

LOL I seriously make fun of people for getting iPhones, if you want to live a sheltered life where all your decisions are made for you, then go ahead. But I won't lol and I'll laugh while you have to stay stuck in your little square.

PS: I had an iPhone 3GS, and while it was functional it was okay. I ported it over to run Android...lol...Sorry but Apple is just too...idk...they're like Computer Nazi's or something.

Blah blah rant rant rant *rolls around on fire*
