If you aren't planning on carrying it around in your pocket all day, you could also go for a tablet. I don't think you'll find one for $30, but you can get either of the last B&N Nook tablets, which have really nice screens, for under $150, and who knows what you can find on craigslist or ebay. Budget tablets tend to be cheaper than phones because they don't have as many radios and sensors. Phones have been my only alarm clock for over ten years, and a phone or tablet is going to be much more flexible as an alarm than any dedicated alarm clock you can buy. |
