Parts of One Song In the Next?

So this is an odd issue I have noticed. I have the songs from the album Discovery (Daft Punk) and I've long noticed something. The very first song is 5:20 long and the second one is 3:26. But when I play the first one, it abruptly ends at 5:20, and if I were to start listening to the next song, I would hear what sounds like that missing half second of the first.

I also notice this in the songs from Jesus Is: Remix, where's is a series of songs, with the pairs being (I'm pretty sure they're correct anyway) tracks 4 and 5, 7/8, and 9/10. Track 4 would finish off and then the start of track 5 would pick up before track 4 has officially ended its running time of 3:31. Same with 7/8 and 9/10.

Now, I could easily download software to edit the songs and fix up the little nuisance, but I'd like to see if anyone else has any knowledge or experience of this.

Usually bands actually do this themselves, since songs floating together sometimes sounds good. There's a feature in Winamp that fades the songs together for you.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon is pretty much one big song, since all the songs jam into the next one.

If you're using iTunes, it's a feature so that there is not annoying gap between songs. Go to iTunes > Preferences > Playback. There you can turn it off, or adjust how long it is.

      http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Download version 1.2.6. Rip the songs in question off the CD and convert them to wav format, either by using your own converter or the free version of something like this. When the files are done converting, click the "open output" button at the bottom, or open the folder containing the sound files. Open Audacity. Drag the first song from the folder to audacity...just drop it right in. Then add in the second one. You should see the second one get added just beneath the first. Move it up by cutting and pasting the second one to the first one. Edit out any gaps...you may have to zoom in a bit. When you've "fixed" the sound, go ahead and export the entire project as a wav file (under file). If desired, convert the wav file to mp3 or a similar format. Burn to new disc/do whatever.

      ...or just use iTunes.

I think any decent media player has this option.

I don't mean that there is a gap between the songs. I mean that the first song ends and then immediately the first few seconds of the next song on the CD begin, while the first song is still thought to be playing. Let me give you an example. For some reason, I can only find this online with the songs from Jesus Is: Remix, so I'll tell you what times to fast forward to so you don't have to listen to the lyrics. The links below are to their YouTube videos which also have the problem.

A New Day. Click on the Pause/Play button when the song starts so you don't have to listen to the lyrics and wait for it to buffer the song completely. Then move the little circle thing to 3:20. You'll hear the song fading, a couple seconds of silence, and then the start of the next song on the CD (this for reference. If you listen to the first few seconds you'll hear it's a continuation of the end of the previous track).

If they are not actually "jamming" into the next song, there's really no point in doing it. In my opinion that's just terrible editing.
