WILD / MILD question and great experience

Ok so last night I had my first "successful" WILD. I would say that it was a mixed technique with the Mnemonic Induced Lucid Dream Technique.
I'll explain: While I was waiting for my body to fall asleep I was also repeating the mnemonic device "i will have lucid dreams".. eventually i did fall asleep and went striaght into REM and a dreamscape. It was incredible! because I knew right away that I was dreaming though, I kept waking back up. I also kept having repeated false awakenings, but each time I would recognize it was a dream. Eventually I was able to stay inside the dream and explore my own unconscious landscape! I've never been able to stay inside a dream while knowing it was a dream for this long before. I was able to talk to a dream character, jump off a cliff, fly, and I also encountered a strange flock of six eyed birds. those were pretty strange.
The only thing that was different from what I thought the experience would be like with WILD, is that there seemed to be a small blackout dream period between being awake and being lucid. Is this normal?

thats great ive had a similar breakthrough as of last night. yes it seems normal. ive so far only gone into lucids with a tiny gap in consciousness. i suppose when you manage to keep awareness throughout the whole process it will feel more like an obe compared to a wild. was that after some sleep or before bed? ive only done it in the morning after a bit of sleep, but getting closer to being able to do it straight away

yes!! i completely agree! especially when i "came out" of the dreams.. (because i was having many false awakenings before being able to "stay lucid") i had really strong vibrations and felt like i was standing instead of laying down. i felt like i was on the verge of an OBE as well.
and it was around 5am after i had slept for a little bit. i know some people use alarm clocks, but i just meditate for a while.. then sleep a bit, and almost always wake up around 5am and then i know i'm ready to lucid dream. so it was after i had slept a little bit and i knew my body/mind was ready to do some REM cycles.
and yeah, i don't think the "gap in consciousness" was that big of a deal, because i could sort of tell when the dream was starting and knew what was going on. and also. it is strange seeing the whole dreamscape including a dream character and part of my own body all melt together and become the darkness of seeing the backs of my eyelids, and then going into a new dream from there. very very cool feeling.
