      Did I hit sleep paralysis?

This is the first time it's happened, or anything like this has happened. I have been trying to attain this elusive SP for so long, and I think I may have finally caught it.

I was watching a marathon of Kyle XY before I went to bed, and it was 11:30pm when I finally decided to end it and get some rest for school. I set the alarm for 5:30am to attempt my WILD but my pillow fell on top of it during sleep and I woke up at 6:00am instead.

It kinda bothered me so I didn't really want to WILD anymore and just turned the alarm off to get some sleep, and that's where it happened. Somewhere along the way of falling asleep, I realized I was hearing a very loud buzzing in my ears. I thought, "Holy crap I'm experiencing SP" then thought "This is scary" so I put some effort into quieting the buzzing.

Then I thought "wait no, I want this to happen" and allowed my mind to relax and let the buzzing consume my entire head. All of a sudden as it was reaching its peak I SUNK into my bed and my body was condensed into what felt like a miniscule ball. And I woke up.

It was 6:39 at that point and I was confused. I thought "shouldn't I be in a LD? I did everything right..." I then got angry and decided to just revel in the fact that I may have just hit SP and returned to bed.

The second I closed my eyes... I woke up for real. I looked at the clock and it was only 6:21. I had accidentally, but successfully executed a WILD. This information made me a happy man all day, even now.

But please, tell me, was that really SP? Or just some weird dream experience?

False awakenings are very common with WILDs, you have to look out for that. It definitely sounds like you entered SP. When that happens and you "wake up" you should do an RC, even if you think you failed. This has happened to me a few times too.

Hi, I'm brand new to this site but have been privately enjoying lucid dreams for a long time.

I'm not so hot on some of the acronyms this forum seems to use, eg. 'SP'. I'm sure I'll get them all soon.

However, I vividly remember the first time I entered WILD.

I was really quite scared and it crossed my mind that I might be dying, lol. It felt like I was receiving a sustained electric shock to my brain but I'd heard about WILD and was already having lucid dreams, so somehow I managed to relax myself and continue.

I entered into the dream world and was fully lucid, however I was so excited that I'd transitioned straight into an LD that it didn't last very long.

Since then I've had several very successful WILDs and the paralysis barrier has seemed much less threatening and less pronounced after the initial 'shocking' one.

My advice is to try and not get too excited and to just relax and go with the flow. In my early days of LDs I ruined many of them by simply becoming too excited that I'd achieved it.

Just keep telling yourself in a calm voice that everything is ok and you're going to enjoy what will come but try not to become too hyper and excited. When you do become fully lucid start off slowly and don't rush in to creating extreme experiences as they can also cause you to awake.

I wish you the best of luck!

Edit: Lol, SP is obviously Sleep Paralysis. Can't believe I didn't figure it out straight away.
