      Why cant i acheive SP?

Ok, so i realise my goal shouldnt be to get to SP it should be to become lucid. BUT! im really interested in wilding.. and well.. ive tried. alot lately. at different times of the night/morning, ive tried staying awake for a short amount of time, also longer amounts of time. and the only thing i seem to be good at is falling asleep lol... i think i got very close one night. but it was around 12 midnight and i hadnt had anysleep yet.. any ideas?

      Lol..
Hmm, maybe since you just fall asleep, you should try FILD (Finger Induced Lucid Dreaming)
It involves moving your fingers the tiniest amount, so that you can just feel it.
This keeps your mind awake, but your body falls asleep, thus triggering SP.
Try looking up a User Tutorial on it in the Wiki.
I found that in the time that I used to try WILD, I also fell asleep to quickly, without achieving SP, then when I tried FILD, I got to SP twice I think.

      Hope that helps.

What usually sends me into SP is to be relatively awake, but still tired enough to be able to go back to sleep. Then, I use something as background noise to focus on. Usually if I'm going to get SP, it happens within 3 minutes of me doing that. You can use pretty much anything for background noise. I've used a fan, my computer, and even my dad's voice when he was talking to me while I was trying to sleep. Give it a try, maybe it'll work for you.

If it makes you any happier, I find me very hard for me to achieve SP let alone fall asleep trying WILD..
At the fork in the road I turned left while everyone else turned right..

AAAH FINALLY WILDED THIS MORNING!!!!!!!!!! BUT! i dont remember any form of SP...... lol. at all. though. at one point, i was laying in my bed.kind of face down and i did the nose plug RC, and i was asleep. so i slowly tried to push myself up from my bed to stand...and i was SOOO heavy. and all of a sudden i started vibrating all over. i felt liek mobile phone! i figured i wasnt in a deep enough sleep and was feeling my (real body) and i could feel the SP??? any thoughts?

      That could be.
I have experienced many different random sensations in my dreams. Never vibrating, but sometimes I am extremely groggy and weak and drunk feeling.
---o--- my DCs say I'm dreamy.

Why shouldn't your goal be to get to SP? SP is a perfect platform for WILD'ing. Some work on perfecting the art of inducing SP for months before trying to deliberately WILD. NoddyMaye, have you read this thread? The process described is an important benchmark on the path to SP.

Please read that post thoroughly and read the testimonials. If and when you decide to follow it to the letter, please keep me updated within this thread or via PM with your results.

If your sole issue is falling asleep too quickly.. try to induce SP with your forearm up in the air. Sounds a bit crazy but it's much better than the original (that being sitting in a chair holding a rock over a metal bucket). Once your forearm falls, you should awaken and raise it again. This teaches your mind how to linger at that awake/sleep state.

Sorry ive never heard of this technique before. Would you please be able to explain that again in greater detail? Or just attach a link to the tutorial for it or whatever.

      Thanks!

It's nothing you'll find on here. Something I took from a book called "Think and Grow Rich". In it, the author speaks about great minds such as Thomas Edison who used the mind awake, body asleep state as an ideal state of mind to continue ironing out the details in his work. The way he learned how to achieve this state deliberately was by sitting in a chair and holding a rock over a tin bucket. Every time he'd fall asleep unconsciously, the rock would fall in the bucket.. waking him up to repeat the exercise. Eventually, he learned to go into his sleep state consciously and work more efficiently.

The same technique can be applied here.. albeit in a more relaxing and comfortable manner. Teaching ones self to fall asleep consciously requires discipline, however, - it can be done. Try holding your forearm (not your entire arm) in the air as you are going to sleep. If it falls, it should stir you enough to re-do the exercise until you've done it enough times to meet your satisfaction for that night. Repetition of this trains your body to enter the sleep state consciously.. sometimes even when you're not attempting to do so at all.

I actually realise now i may have just done a WBTB and not a wild...either way i was lucid and very happy about.. especially since before i knew what lucid dreaming was..i was lucid almost every night at some point (sometimes for a breif moment) and now..... roll in the lucid drought lol!!!!!

That falling asleep with a rock and bucket technique is hilarious, but does sound quite effective if you don't have a heart attack from it. Any how very interesting, i might try that forearm thing, a bit more subtle and to my liking.

I am now going to try that forearm technique. It sounds very effective for some reason since I have trouble getting into a lucid dream, and the finger technique sounds awesome too.

Not saying it wasn't real SP, but I've had SP in dreams before. Perhaps your mind just had you experience what you expected SP to feel like in your dream for some unknown reason?
