( WILD) problems with sleep paralysis

Hello everyone. I'm having major issues going into sleep paralysis, it seems I can barely do it at all, even when my mind is a sleep. As you all know, it is very much easier to WILD while body asleep, but i cannot seem to get it to go asleep. When I am at a sleep over or sleep in the same room with someone else, i get told I roll around a lot in my sleep, and talk, so I'm not sure if that is because of the same reason I can't go into SP while awake (Because i barely go in it at all while asleep)

My latest attempt at achieving SP was unsuccessful, and I ended up lying there for about an hour and a half. My attempts usually start with me getting a snack and a glass of water, then stretching (including my jaw,) and relaxing. Then i get into bed in a comfortable position and sleep breath, keeping my eyes still. Nothing ever happens after that. Although a couple times my legs did feel heavy, right after I woke up from sleep, but it never progressed (even with sleep triggers), and when i attempted to move my legs, it was as easy as normal.

      (More info, in case needed)
When I do my attempts the times vary, some times i do it in the morning, sometimes at night, but i always get 9+hours of sleep before hand (and afterward for night attempts) I'm never tired when I try either. I don't have much stress or any known sleep disorders. Also, I don't swallow when falling asleep, it's just easy for me not to swallow, probably because I play the sax a lot, no time to swallow while playing. I have also never experienced sleep paralysis while awake. And yes, I have done WBTB and timer method, which do allow me to remember my dreams and LD occasionally, but never WILD

Thanks for the help, and if you can't, thanks for the pity

What is going through your mind during these attempts? Generally, you need to be doing some sort of meditation to try and encourage a trance-like state. Read a few WILD guides to get an idea of what I mean.

Also, 9 hours of sleep before your attempt is probably too much. You are probably not tired enough after a full night's sleep. Try waking after 4 1/2 or 5 hours of sleep.

Well, I usually try not to think to much. I either day dream or focus on non-physical space. Also I guess i should have been more specific on the times. so here's the specification. when i do morning attempts, it's usualy around 5AM when i go to sleep around 11PM-12AM. on night attempts, i get 9 hours the previous night. I'm not sure if that will help.

And thanks, i will look into some meditation and other WILD guides.

What do you personally do? There are so many contradicting tutorials out there, ranging from Yoshi's guide where he basically suggests doing nothing but try to fall asleep, lying there until you hit SP through to techniques that say you have to constantly count breaths. I find with the former that I don't 'feel' like I'm WILDing and I fall into unconscious sleep because I'm not doing anything different to the normal process, and the latter seems to keep me awake because it is taking to much concentration.

Well right now I am attempting to do it through mantras.(you know like, repeating one sound aloud, then in your head to keep it focused on a simple task) Most of the time I just focus on the space around me, switching each attempt. One i will focus on the feeling in my chest and body, another time I might focus on my head. I usually focus on non-physical space though, which is the metaphoric space in front of your eyelids.

The only tutorial I follow is Nick Newport's, as it is the only one i have taken the entire way through. I have almost succeeded with a VILD though, it was extremely difficult to get my memory impressions to that level, and then i accidentally moved and broke the whole trance

I WILD but without a proper SP. When I started to practice I still got more of a SP, but I always was able to move my muscles anyway - only my muscles would ache when I did move too fast. These days I do not have any SP, but just a deep relaxation. So you can try to achieve the feeling of deep relaxation. I have to lie on my back for that. I can't do it during the nights, as then I get twitchy legs, so I can't lie still on my back. Nick Newport's tutorial did not work for me at all because of that. Also his SP induction techniques did not work for me.

When I am deeply relaxed my legs and arms start feeling like they become fuzzy at the edges. I think about it as feeling my energy body. To achieve that, it does help me to send my awareness through my body, searching for all the spots that have any tension left and then allow the part to relax. The most important part for me is always the neck. When I manage to relax there, it gives a feeling of a surge of relaxation. This sometimes can go up to my headspace and allows also my mind to relax.

Thank's much Kilpikonna, that sound's like it will work. I get that leg and arm feeling quite often as well, so I will now know what to do at that point, even if my body doesnt go into SP.

For the others, thanks the actual meditation (instead of just going to sleep) helped me relax a lot. Although if anyone can tell me if I can and how i should go into SP, I would still like to hear(read) it.
