You saw some HI and then lost the image of it. How long did you stay in SP for? What did you try and do once in SP? |

So yesterday, I tried wilding for the first time, and because of my jump-start learning, I picked it up real fast. So once i got to sp(I know it was because my was numb the way it is during selfhypnosis) my heart was beating faster, and just started finding various powers of2 to keep me conscious. 2, not dreaming, and etc. All of a sudden, I saw a vivid sunset, as if someone painted using oilpastels. Then, all went black. I did rcs,but iwas awake. Did I ld, or is something wrong? |

Yeah sounds like an unformed dream to me, just chill out and focus on the HI, let it form. |

Yup, like I said in your newbie thread it sounds like you were really close. Just keep it up! |

Everyone pleasemjust look at the jump start post. I don't want to be too noobish by restating my self. |

Sp feels like a lead blanket on you, not numbness. You sure you couldn't move? |

It was a lead blanket that stiffened my muscles |

But those paintings (which I thought were awesome despite being terrifying) predispose you for a bad experience. What's more they are by their nature completely exaggerated, I doubt that even in a bad experience of deliberately induced SP you have Ringu girls clawing your mouth open and nurse Succubi clamping your mouth shut, the pictures take an artistic license with the experience. Now I've experienced the worst of SP when I was younger and had no clue what it was, but I all I was thinking about as I tried to WILD was those pictures. Imagine how it must be for people who've never experienced sleep paralysis? |

Having the feeling that you were covered by a lead blanket is definitely SP; sometimes it occurs as a wave or a sudden block hitting you all at once. You also might know you're in SP because you suddenly have a change in awareness; you might feel more "clear" headed or aware. Maybe you became too excited and thought of your physical body, which can cause the SP transition to cease altogether. You might also have been in the wrong part of your REM cycle; the best time to try a WILD is after 4-6 hours of sleep in the middle of the night, give or take, or 4-6 hours after waking up in the morning during a nap. |

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I had to stop what could have otherwise been my first successful WILD last night because of the video, maybe I'm just sensitive I was lying there having woken up at 5am, doing my new technique, I was just starting to induce hypnagogia (ala Jeff's free falling WILD) when I felt a rush up from my toes to the dome of my skull. It was exhilarating but absolutely relaxing at the same time. Moments later I felt a second rush, accompanied by a feeling of my awareness being focused around my head and a detachment from the rest of my body, but at the same this awareness expanded, giving the sense that I was expanding out of my skull. Right at that moment I felt a feeling of dread and thought about those paintings (even though I knew that real SP had little to do with the artistic renditions) and I pulled myself out of it. I actually said aloud 'Not ready for that'. :/ I'm excited by the progress however, I feel like I'm definitely going to be successful tonight |

I think you both have valid points. Yes, it is a good idea to show people what can happen, as is best with many other situations. But in this case, it is also bad to instill ideas and thoughts of bad things into the minds of new people. If you were never told that SP can go badly, and even if people say it can never happen, then odds are newbies won't even consider that bad trips are possible. |
