      Going from relaxation to SP?

I just tried a mid-afternoon nap WILD. I managed to get EXTREMELY relaxed. My whole body felt numb and my arms felt a slight tingling. I didn't feel like I could move the right half of my body. From what I understand, that is just relaxation. How can I move from this relaxation to SP and then a dream?

Hey xspectrum, I just tried the same thing, but unluckily, I have a noisy family and I only got to the really relaxed part. Here I am, really relaxed, ready to move on but nothing really happens. I saw some hypnagogic imagery and then it stopped after a while, no progress.
Initially, I think we should try to have our focus on falling asleep, when we're so close, just catch ourselves slightly and go with it. I got farther than usual with that so I'l try again but this time, after a little bit of sleep.
Btw, add me to the list of the people asking this question.

Yeah, I'm really not sure why we can't transition into SP... Must be missing something.

What I usually do is visualize a dream scene when I'm fully relaxed. That way I just transfer straight to the scene I am visualizing.

I did that, but I never got into SP... I just stayed in that very relaxed state.

It seems like your concentrating to hard waiting for SP to kick in. Because of that your keeping your mind active not allowing you to fall asleep into a lucid dream. Try focusing more on your visualization but keep it more like a day-dream. If all goes well, you should transfer into the dream scene your visualizing.

Hey thanks iFatal, now that I remember clearly, I've always been waiting for SP to come in. I'l see what happens if I just sort of daydream.
However, when I do V-WILD the scene I'm dreaming seems to disappear and fade away as soon as I encounter HI such as the heart-beat one.
Well, it could be that I am not concentrating enough on the dream, but when I do, I just don't fall asleep! I'l try what you said, thanks.

One visualization I tried when I had a successful DIELD is that visualized 2 small rectangular sheets of paper. I held one in the right hand and another in the left.

The numbers looked somewhat like this:

      79 54 38 14 08

And I would have a different set of numbers on ther piece of paper in my other hand.

What I would do in the visualization is try to match both pairs of numbers I was holding to be the same. So instead of random numbers I would try to match them all to be let's say the number 54 so in both hands all the pairs of numbers would be the number 54.

I would try to match them by looking back and forth at each sheet. Most of the time the numbers will change each time you look back and each sheet of paper. While you do the visualization will become more and more clear until you WILL know when your dreaming.

Another thing I tried in a successful WILD was visualizing me playing a video game. The only difference was that I was the character. The scene got more and more clear until I knew I was dreaming.

Another thing you want to know while doing these is not to focus much on HI or SP. Concentrate more on your visualization.

You also want to try both of these when your VERY tired and you can easily fall back asleep.

      Hoped this helped!

      Tell me your results!

Thanks, that should help. On a similar note, is it possible to WILD before I get any sleep? For example, I'm EXTREMELY tired right now, so would I be able to WILD before I go to sleep?

Hey xspectrum, you probably would. Since you just have to be really relaxed and ready I guess. See what happens, people say that WILD's before any sleep are really unstable since REM is really short during the early sleep. Tell me how it goes and good luck.

You always want to get sleep before attempting a WILD. At least 4 hours. It is possible to WILD without sleep at all but you would most likely lay in bed for hours before getting SP and if you do manage to transfer to a dream, the dream would be low quality and unstable.
