If that little already does something you might have good chances with WILDing, but as you mentioned you'll need some technique.
I'd suggest you try to VILD if you can visualize good, maybe do it along your breathing technique, there is a useful entry in the Wiki but it doesn't seem to be accessible. Try to fall asleep normally, just focus on your breathing and try to visualize something.
If you have the time to you should also add WBTB to your schedule, make some experiments when it's best to get up and how long to stay up. If that doesn't work to your satisfaction after some time you should consider to read one of the more specific guides in this subforum and look if one of the variations works better for you.

I can't really judge how much prior knowledge you have with you from what you wrote, is that a sufficient suggestion or should I put down some more detail?
