Freaking out when SP is coming on

Okay so i've never WILD'd before but there has been a couple of times where Im laying there and then i get this sensation over my whole body and it causes me to breath heavily, and think "Oh sh*t, its coming" and i just end up ruining it, any tips on how to stay calm?

*NREM, not SP. SP is something that happens when you wake up from a dream and you're literally paralyzed. NREM is really what you're referring to.

Now that we got that straight, sorry to break it to ya, but you weren't in NREM. NREM is unmistakable: loud noises, crazy visual hallucinations, and sometimes feelings of motion, heaviness, or lightness. Heavy breathing is not part of it. In fact, you shouldn't even be aware of your breathing at all.

Interestingly enough, heavy breathing, rapid heartbeat, and feelings of excitation are associated with people who trick themselves into thinking they're in NREM but they're really just psyching themselves out.

For a good primer on WILD, please read the guide in my signature.

Okay, I will. What do you think the sensations I was feeling were?

Self induced hyperventilation trance. All beginners do it. When you lie there and try to "make" something happen and you focus really hard and expect to feel certain things (because you read a horrible shitty incorrect WILD guide by jeff777 for example) then the mind makes it real. And it just so happens that the fake NREM that people induce always has the same exact characteristics, to the point where someone like me can easily spot it when someone describes what happened.

But trust me, real NREM is a powerful experience and you'll know it when it happens.
