In my experiences, DEILDs are very quick and relatively painless when compared to the struggle and discomfort that can come with WILDing from wakefulness. In fact, in all of the DEILDs I've had, I've barely become conscious, and they usually happen by accident. When I was making conscious efforts to WILD every night before sleep (though it's rare, it's good practice and relaxing), doing reality checks throughout the day, and generally having lucid dreaming on my mind, I entered DEILDs almost automatically. I start remembering things right before the transition, when I know if I just relax, it'll happen very quickly. So in DEILDs, you don't have time to anticipate anything or to bring anything frightening on yourself. You can try to make the suffocating feeling go away by forgetting it ever happened; often, thinking about some scary phenomenon only causes it to reoccur. (When I first WILDed, I felt vibrations, a huge roaring, and entered right into a nightmare! But I forgot about the scary noise, and I haven't heard it since.)
We were always dreaming of how it was going to be.

Longest chain of DEILDs: [5] WILD[X] DILD[X] DEILD[X] OBE[X] Fly[X] Bend elements[] Task of the Month/Year[] Hang out with real-life people[X] Summon a random DC[] Talk to a DC consciously[X] Find my dream guide[] Have complete control[] Realize that there is no spoon[]
And this because I love it:

Just go into sleep paralysis knowing that you are vastly more powerful than anything that might show up. If things creep up on you in an OBE or lucid dream, just scare them away, and it'll improve your confidence. Another thing you can do is to just treat the hallucinations as if they are simply lost and try to befriend them. I was once spooked by a faceless woman but I eventually managed to just say "hey what's up" like she's nothing to worry about, and she no longer scares me.

I also once woke up in sleep paralysis and a black wolf was growling at me, but I managed to calm it down as if it were a dog, and now it waltzes into my dreams recurrently and just sorta sits around calmly.
