Supposedly counting backwards helps a lot. It takes a little more thought than counting forward and keeps you a little more aware. It really depends on how you arebdoing with WILD, are you falling asleep unconscious? Or are you staying too conscious that you aren't falling asleep? You can adjust WBTB times and different mental exercises till you find optimum point for you to WILD. It is a very personal thing really. Have you read all the guides on here? Mzzkc's guides are really good. I can link if you need them.
Also, my own little WILD variation. Try falling. Just imagine yourself doing flips. Any sort really. Spinning down a hill. Rolling. On a trampoline doing flips. Preferably a flip you have done countless times like rolling down a hill. Imagine it. Imagine the feelings and the gravity shifting. This seems to keep my mind awake enough to go into a dream, yet asleep enough to fall asleep.
