      Control's WILD guide!

After a LOT of trial and error I can safely say that I have finally found a technique that is easy and works almost every time for me! I thought I'd share this technique to help some of you out because I've been struggling with WILD for the past years, unable to pull it off and it's a pretty demotivating and frustrating progress. I've considered giving up many times and reached to other people for tips all the time. The problem was that everybody gave me really good tips but I would still fail every single time.

The procedure of a WILD would be:
      1. Make sure you're near or in a REM-cycle (which would mean that it's very recommended to go to sleep first which is already explained in so many guides)
      2. Find a personal anchor to stay aware
      3. Enter the dream

it sounds really easy but still lot of people need more specific tactics to succesfully WILD.

So what I do while going to sleep is telling myself I will wake up after anywhere between 5-6 hours.
I always insist on waking up naturally because that would mean I'd be on the end of my REM-cycle.
I have added an attachment showing an estimated timespan between REM-cycles.

Now what I used to do is, when I woke up, was directly trying WILD from here on.
As we can see on the chart however, it's still about 30-50 minutes until the next REM-cycle which means that you'll have to remain conscious all that time! I always ended up losing consciousness and waking up remembering fragments of non-lucid dreams.

Now what I do when I wake up naturally is set an alarm that goes off ONCE after 30 minutes which you don't have to put out yourself.
I have searched for a way to do this and I have found one at last!
There's an application called: "Lucid Dream Reality Check Reminder" and it's completely free.
It's extremely easy to use, you can set an interval in hours:minutes so all you need to do is just put somewhere between 00:30 and 01:00 there.

Then there's a repeat tab where you see "20".
Change that "20" to "1" and tick ON "Play sound" and "vibrate" below.
Then all you have to do is press start and make sure to KEEP YOUR PHONE active, do not lock it because the app won't go off, just lay it somewhere close to you and leave it active.

Now when you wake up after the alarm, all you have to is either practise to keep your eyes closed or just roll-over once. So it's practically a DEILD or a really short WILD because you'll wake up RIGHT when you REM-cycle starts or it may already be active!
All that is left to do know is to find a personal anchor that gets you atleast slightly excited and motivated to keep that awareness.

Now it may sound very crazy but one of the FEW anchors that works for me is.. well, visualizing a sex-dream!
It's so boring to visualize walking downstairs or through your house that I slip out of consciousness every attempt. Also counting your breaths doesn't interest me at all. You have to find something that is capable of exciting you a little bit when you're new to the whole process.

Since you're already in or near your REM-cycle is should literally only take few minutes to find yourself in a dream. Watch out that you don't forget that you're attempting to lucid dream because it's easy to get carried away by events in dreams. Lots of times I'm already dreaming but I still believe that I'm actually attempting to WILD.

Good luck with it guys, I figured if it helped me it should help some of you too!

Well, this seems promising and I might try it, if there's an app available for iOS as well. Judging by your avatar, Roy, you use Android.. *sherlock*.
There's some app called Lucid Dream Reality Check, for free, but I'm not entirely sure if it works the same way.

Could also use vibration only, no sound, and then put it in your sock :L. It should be alright, if the alarm stops after a minute or so, yeah?

I'll try it tonight and report back later.

Did you spot my HTC hahaha
      you're quite the detective H.
oh and if you manage to get the same app it only goes off once (1x sound and 1x vibration) which is perfect
let me know how it works for you!

      Eh, well.
Ended up having a DILD, no WILDs or DEILDs. Broke my dry spell, or whatever it was, so idk I'm happy .
      Will try again tonight.

      DJ entry, if anyone's interested.

I agree with the visualization part, if you are not used to the stairs technique it can be quite cumbersome. I like to imagine fast paced fighting scenes or having conversations with my dream guide, it really pulls me in and distracts me from my body.

No I was referring to where he states that his anchor is visualizing a sex scene. Any thing which makes you use your senses usually works quite well.

Yeah, I agree with having an anchor that's a little exciting. I was just chatting with Control about it, where I said I find it gives you that tiny extra jolt to help keep your mind more aware so you don't slip into non-lucidity or dreamless sleep.

Love your research, Control. What ever way one is able to utilize their REM cycles to attempt a WILD, I think that anchor idea is equally important. And I like it when members learn to WILD on this site, trial and error like you said. Seeing the process is inspirational, plus it means someone down the line is more likely to learn how to WILD by reading your process. I like that over someone who joins the site and already knows how to WILD, and maybe has forgotten what it was like to begin (or was a natural and never had to go through the struggles and frustrations of learning how to in the first place). Learners seem to make the best teachers in my experience. Thanks for sharing

Thank you for this man, especially that graph.

I realize that everyone's sleep patterns are not the same, but you can't seem to ask for any advice on when to try and time your WILDS without getting a cookie cutter response like "Test it!" or "Try a few different times and see what works for you!" That visual reference was especially helpful for me personally.

I am going to try and visualize on my next attempt. when I do anything that involves me counting or keeping track while i'm falling asleep, I just stay awake indefinitely

Just out of curiousity, did you make that chart with your own sleeping data?

It is just an average. Lots of people use that to help them. Control has used it in a very smart way.

Remember that everyone's sleep pattern change a lot, but looking at the charts it makes sense to try and WILD in the later hours because of the amount of REM sleep.

      Good tutorial control.

      Agreed ^^

My longest and best lucids have been during that last big REM chunk. Both WILDs and DILDs.

Very good technique, Control. I've tried something very similar and it is effective. But sometimes something happens that I do not know how to solve. Sometimes, after waking up naturally, I put the alarm and go back to sleep. But for some reason, as I'm waiting for the alarm to ring in about 30 minutes, it makes me excited too and I don't fall asleep instantly, but I stay awake .... how I could solve this issue?

If you've failed because of excitement enough you will lose your enthousiasm temporarily, trust me :p
just keep doing it, I still have that when I realise I'm lucid sometimes, it takes time to control your emotions,
      lucid dreaming is exciting!

A small extra tip, if the alarm does not wake you up, put your phone on a metal plate, the vibrations will sound a lot louder.
