      Bizarre, non-lucid WILD

My sleep schedule is all screwed up. I slept from 6-9 PM yesterday and then from 1AM-10AM last night. I kept trying to WILD despite not really being tired, and seemed to have achieved some results, although nothing I was trying for. So here's what happened:

I closed my eyes and tried to FILD with a mantra. At first, I felt like I was going to pass out, and then, whenever I "tried" to see something, it would pop into my vision in a blurry fashion, sort of like visualizing in waking life. I guess I eventually entered a dream, but lost all awareness that I was in it, even though I entered it myself and experienced the entire process. It was a video game that I was in, experiencing first person. I had to match these memory sequence things up in order to progress. It was pretty weird.

So, anyway, can anybody tell me what happened here? What happened to my awareness? Was I just not tired enough to actually have a lucid dream?

Are you trying to WILD when going to sleep normally? If so, it's not what you should be doing, chances of success are very low. You need to WILD using WBTB or during nap in order to be more successful. I strongly suggest to read those tutorials as well:

Sorry. I left out a key detail. This was when I woke up early in the morning but was still tired. I woke up halfway through a dream from a loud bang outside, and when I tried to wild this happened.

I think the secret to WILD is hitting that sweet spot between being too aware to actually fall asleep and being too sleepy to actually stay aware: in the sweet spot one is sleepy enough and aware enough, but it is so easy to miss WILDing because of leaning one way or the other. Most of my WILD attempts end with either my staying awake or my falling asleep unaware, but I shall continue trying because I did it once and I know I can do it again.

Ah, then you just lost awareness, that happens. Like JoannaB said, try experimenting with your WBTB time until you find a spot where you can keep awareness while still being able to fall asleep and also timed good with REM. As far as i know tiredness doesn't affects whether you can or can"t WILD as long as you can keep awareness, there were times where i managed WILD while being super tired. Also i strongly recommend getting your sleep schedule more or less stabilized if possible.
Either way, still, check out the tutorials that i linked you to in previous post, They have alot of good information about WILD process.

Like stated above, I also believe you lost awareness, assuming you had it. I have read a lot of experiences where the influence of the forum and all the tutorial reading can cause a person to have a non-lucid dream about lucid dreaming. It's just as possible that you started to achieve awareness, lost it, and the dream content was influenced by the attempt and what you've recently read about WILD.

Try again and super-luck to you! Post your successes and fails, it's a good way to get feedback on your progress and attempts.
