There is nothing to be scared of. Everything you may experience is just a hallucination. If you know what it is, you can just ignore it. And no, that is not sleep paralysis. It's just simple hallucinations or sensations that happen when we are falling asleep. We only notice then when we WILD, because we keep our minds conscious well beyond the point, when it would be normally already asleep.
If you have not had a LD yet, I would recommend you stick to DILD, until you have a few LDs. There is no need for a WBTB with MILD or DILD. You practice your awareness, mantras and RCs during day and as you falling asleep. There is no need to get up at night. But if you do, lets say to use the restroom, or something wakes you up, you can use that for a mini WBTB and recite your mantra a few times.
For a DILD, setting your intent and daytime awarenesss practice with RCs are what will help you get lucid during a regular dream. I would save WILDs for those times, when you can sleep in.
