Hi,
I'm sure some experts will reply more accurately and with more information (as I'm also somewhat new), but I'll try to reply with my opinion and based on my experience.
Those images start to happen (at least to me) when you reach a relaxation state that is near sleep. It's precisely here where you have to remain calm and be an spectator of all those things happening, while trying to stay "awake". I know they are scary at first, but as long as you KNOW they are just images, there should be no problem. The next part can be more scary the first times, and it's when you start feeling movement, vibrations, speed, etc...
To be honest I only experienced these things a few times, and never managed to complete all the process, but you have to see it as some kind of roller-coaster. Just remember that you are safely on your bed, and all that you see and feel, is in your head. Also remember that WILD can lead to a fake awakening many times, so even if it turns out as a nightmare, like something going on in your room, noises, etc... (I mean, you think you just failed your WILD and woke up), if you manage to get up from bed, always do RCs. It's a good practice to always do it, anytime you wake up.
I once had a bad FA (not from wild), where I heard someone trying to enter my house (in the middle of the night), and when I went to the door I saw 3 big guys outside with leatherjackets, trying to break my lock, and believe it wasn't a good feeling. I realized it was a dream only after trying to call emergency (112 in my country) and it always changed to 121 when I pressed "dial".. after 4 times typing 112 and my phone dialing 121, I realized it was a dream, my fear vanished and I just went and opened the door.
Good luck!
