It was like it spasmed without control, sort of. I was kind of freaked out but I kept laying there. I started to see flashes of light here and there, and one time something really weird, not sure how to describe it, exactly. And my body jerked more. I heard a flute noise at one point.
Needless to say, with my body randomly jerking, crazy random lights and not having much success, I decided to just try to go to sleep. However, I found that when I tried to go to sleep my head jerked forward for no reason!! And I also started hearing this high pitched buzzing noise in my ears as well. I ended up turning on the bathroom light and was able to fall asleep after that.
So...is this normal? My body doesn't usually jerk/spasm when I'm laying in bed or anything like that. Maybe I should stick to other techniques, haha! I was concentrating pretty hard on remaining conscious while slipping into my dream with a specific focus on what to do when I was dreaming. Maybe that's where I went wrong?
Hey, what you're experiencing is called a hypnagogic jerk and is completely normal. I get them time to time from sleeping in bed to sleeping in class, lmao, and it just means that you're falling asleep, but for what reason that is I don't know. It must be due to the fact that you're WILDing, but hey, you're guess is as good as mine. Might I suggest the FILD technique? It's really interesting and much easier to do. Search it up in the forums and tell me what you think.
As for the noises, those are hypnagogic as well. That means a dream is forming and you were very much on the right track! You just have to keep calm and relaxed and you should eventually be successful. I tried WILDing a couple nights ago and I was having the same experiences you were, with the hypnagogic images and noises that began to take place but I observed them too much and it went away and I had to start over. This is the hardest part because you have to achieve a balance of being aware they're taking place, but not get excited and try to interact with the images just yet because this is when the dream is starting to be constructed. Be too aware and you have to start the process over again. Be too dormant and you fall into a non-lucid state. I still need a lot work on this myself ha ha!
