WILD - Am i staying up TOO LONG before going back to bed ?

      Hey Guys,
I've had a few lucid dreams and sleep paralysis experience but none of them have been meant or planned.

Every time I try a WILD, I get up at 4am, stay up for approx 45 mins, but when I go back to bed to commence my WILD, I cant seam to relax or get comfy, and kinda struggle to get back to sleep.

My question is, am I staying up TOO LONG, would 5/10 mins be enough as I feel that this would be easier, or is there a proper reason that it should be 45-60mins before going back to bed to WILD.

Or can anyone recommend any audio / youtube vids to aid a WILD in he early morning, would anyone recommend mend the below?

      Thanks in advance for reading

For WBTB, there is no set time on how long to stay up for. Some people do stay up for 45 minutes, then others only need to stay up for a few minutes. Personally all I do is get up, go to the bathroom, then go back to bed; that can take about a couple of minutes. I'd suggest experimenting with how long you stay up and see how it works for you.

Indeed experiment with timing of how long you're up.
Once you find a sweet spot and something is still off, then I suggest play with the time you wake to do wbtb.
Timing for everything is different for everyone.

Also what are you doing when you're trying to stay up?

For me when I try to stay awake for more than 5 min I could not for the life of me continue a LD and or fall asleep. What I do is put my alarm every few hours and place my phone on the other side of the room, I get up turn it off and go back to bed and this usually works. I found this on accident I didn't know that WBTB was a real thing to induce I just have this phobia about being late for school or work LOL

Thanks for the response folks! Usually a cup of tea, a cigarette and 30 mins on here/phone. I know I shouldnt really be on devices like this at that time but not much else to do while the Mrs and the wee man is sleeping!

You should probably know that smoking kills dream recall. Same with the bright lights (and that can ruin sleep for some people too). Tea is good though!

Pretty sure nicotine will help keep you awake even though you feel relaxed.
If you're going to be on a device I recommend this if you can get it https://justgetflux.com/
It'll automatically change the color of your screen which goes easier on your eyes.
If possible make tea, work on your awareness, rc , and go over any dreams you may had or you want to have. Then boom, time for bed

Like the others said, some people need to stay up longer and others shorter amounts of time. Many things about lucid dreaming needs to be experimented and tweaked for yourself.

F.lux is great, it's not available for android but I found a similar app called Twilight.

Maybe you're thinking too much on achieving WILD. Don't think. Better yet, try to think of nothing. If some thoughts come to mind, just let it wander without focusing on a particular thought. This will relax you and you could achieve WILD. It works for me.

I think you just need to stay up until you can keep a thought in your head.

For example I try to wake up after each dream, which usually causes me to wake up after around 5 hours of sleep automatically, but when I wake up this early I'm quite drowsy, so if I start thinking something along the lines of "I'm now... heading to... *yawn* what was I thinking about again?" then I'm too sleep and need to stay up longer. Otherwise if I return to bed and my thoughts are still "blurry" then I can't keep focus / concentration long enough to do WILD or MILD.

So basically try and feel how sleepy you are, or use something to gauge it; if you can do a simple algebra problem in your head you're probably ready to go back to sleep, if you can do a calculus problem you've probably stayed up too long.

PS: I think the only real problem is being too sleepy, because the whole point is to have your mind actively thinking about your intention (for MILD) or just keeping it active (for WILD), my last MILD actually just turned into a WILD because my intention was keeping my mind active. It doesn't really matter how awake you are, you'll get into a dream eventually even if it takes an hour as long as you can keep the focus up. Whereas if you're too sleepy you can't focus and at the point where you start thinking about something other than your intent to have an LD you fall into a normal sleep (for WILD) or forget what you were doing (MILD).

So basically if your mind is wandering a lot while in bed then you're either too worried about something else (try sitting upright and clearing your mind by just following your breath) or you're too sleepy (do something to wake up more like go have a drink of water).
