Yea man, you should have totally done a reality check! I've had a couple WILDs that started with me dreaming that I was still trying to fall asleep.
There are a couple things that you can do once you've started to hallucinate. One thing you can do is to focus on the hallucinations and use them to build your dream, making them more and more vivid until you are in the dream. Another thing you can do is to ignore the hallucinations as though they are background noise, patiently waiting as the dream starts. I think there are a couple guides for these things on DV. You can always ask Sageous for help, I think he's very good at helping people learn how to WILD.
