sleep stages between wbtb and dream

Hi all again. I have been doing wbtb for wild, i awaken naturally each night after 4 hours and i lay down to wild. Now i know that my rem cycles are not too far away but what stages of sleep must i go through before i hit the rem. I seem to lay there for a long time, my body goes a bit numb, i get dreamlets, and other mild sensations but i am consciously aware still.

If i wake from a rem cycle then surely i have to go through other stages of sleep before i hit the next rem cycle. I know that the other stages (nrem) are much shorter but i do still have to go through them first right?

If so, are those stages deep sleep and if so how does a person maintain consciousness through them, please simple explanation would be great thank you

      Question 2) :-)

Is is better to wake after a rem cycle naturally and then attempt wild OR set an alarm about 30 mins after my natural awakening and just go back to sleep after my natural awakening. My reasoning is that after i wake naturally from a rem cycle then the next rem cycle could be 30 mins away so should i just go back to sleep for 30 mins and then wake with an alarm mych nearer (mins away) from my next rem cycle?

      Thanks guys

This thread might contain useful information: targeting REM cycles.
