I just can't progress farther into WILDs...I need some help please.

I have been trying to WILD for about 4 months now. I know that is not very long, and I understand it will take time. However, I seemed to have hit a brick wall. Whenever I try and WILD, I never progress =(

I always become deeply relaxed, and I feel my body start to fall asleep. Yet, the farthest I ever get into the process is where I am barely able to feel my body at all (Normally I can only barely feel my shoulders). I have never experienced any type of HI. What do I do to progress? How do I get my body to take that final step? My body just never seems to progress beyond this point no matter how long I wait =(. (I normally end up giving up after 2 hours)

You're not somebody who quits very fast. 4 months and upto 2 hours each time. Keep trying!
I first didn't "believe" in Wilds, but two days ago I had the very best Wild ever.
This is how I did it:
Wake up after 5 hours sleep, drink a glas of applejuice, read a book about LD, chapter Wild, after 15 minutes I meditate for 15 minutes.
So after 30 -35 minutes I went back to bed. It took about 30 minutes when I began to feel strange. My body was streched like it was 3 meter or so. First I was scared. Then I heared a noise like I had water in my ears. Then I got the feeling I was falling, it was painful a few times. Then I could control that falling feeling and I fell just into the dream. Fully Lucid. It was very scary and also weird feeling. The dream took about 15 minutes

This is how I did it, I hope you find your way

      good luck

We need a more detailed description of your approach. You might me making some simple mistakes (eg too much/not enough WBTB time). Or you might just need tweeking what you are already doing.

      So:

When do you try to WILD? (at bed time or do you WBTB and if so how long)
DO you take supplements? (if so which and when)
      How do you relax?
      How long are your attempts?
SLeeping position and do you have issues remaining still or are you using the roll over method?
Which method do you use to maintain conciousness?

Give us a detailed description. Walk us through step by step what you do during a WILD atempt.

      In addition to evildoctor's questions,

What are you thinking about as you WILD? What is going on in your mind? What are you visualizing or telling yourself?

To answer some of the questions...
-I WBTB normally about 4 hours to 5 hours after going to bed.
      -I take no supplements
-I relax by using the Reverse Blinking Technique, I find it makes me sleepy quickly.
-I attempt normally about 1-2 hours
-I used to try laying on my side, but now I try laying on my back.
-I maintain consciousness normally by using reverse blinking or picturing a scene or counting (I have no problem staying conscious, I almost never fall asleep, I get extremely relaxed and my body just doesn't seem to progress deep into SP.)

Normally I will...wake up...get out of bed...read over a page of "how to WILD" I printed up from this site, then go to the bathroom and go back to bed. I normally stay up about 10 min. doing this.

Why do you almost never fall asleep?

I meant during WILD attempts. All I meant was that I normally am able to keep my thoughts in check, so I don't lose control and fall asleep. For the most part, I do not have a problem with staying focused.

Not being able to fall sleep can be the problem. I think you are keeping an unconscious resistance not to sleep completely so if WILD happens you'll be there to experience it. I was doing the same thing (and still do because during my attempts I got used to it).

Did you try keeping yourself a bit sleep deprived? I mean if you usually sleep 8 hours a day. Keep sleeping 6 hours for a few days. That can get you past overfocusing when you try WILDing.

I've only had successful WILDs when I let my mind wander a bit. I keep it on a leash and try not to let it wander forever but for me it's always been a little bit of luck. I happen to let my mind wander, I enter a dream before I've lost my awareness. I'm no expert but I've had a decent amount of WILDs just from WBTB without even trying a WILD. When I try to WILD it becomes very difficult for me.

Let the thoughts pass through your mind. Don't focus too much on a particular thought.

Sounds like you could be too awake......

How long is your WBTB time? - experiment with shortening it.

Dont turn on the lights - if you are reading or using the PC then stop - I prefer to stay in the dark.

Dont walk around too much or do too much activity.

I have best results with shorter WBTB times, staying dark and using the time to focus my will, use affirmations etc.

As one of the other posters said - try a little sleep deprivation also. I find I get most WILDs on Friday night / saturday morning. I work in downtown chicago during the week and have to get up very early. I probably only getting 4-5 hours sleep mid week - so by Friday night Im a wreck and can sleep in staurday morning. The only challenge I have in NOT ignoring my alarm and going back to sleep......

To keep yourself from wondering off to sleep, is it smart to focus on your breathing?

Well its distracting, good to not focus too much on SP. I don't know if it'll prevent you from falling asleep though.
