A couple questions from a WILD noob

Okay, I'll start off by saying I am an impatient person, which is just barely overmastered by me wanting more LDs. So I've always struggled if I try to WILD. And I've never had a successful WILD. I've tried a couple times with counting breaths, but I have a terrible concept of time and always end up giving up at around 30 minutes.

So first question, I've read that minor movements can bring you back a little, but not quite all the way, out of the WILDing process. What do you guys consider eye movement? does everyone keep still including their eyes or do some people move those around and still WILD. I ask because I always end up moving them no matter how much I try to stay still.

Also, is it best to breath through nose or mouth? not really that important, just wondering what works better for most people.

And most importantly, are there any milestone type feelings while WILDing just to know I'm doing it right so far? things like hands going numb, stabilizing of hypnogogic imagery, or anything like that?

And lastly, I hear the body gives little "test" to make sure you are asleep. How strong are they? are they like a little itch or something way worse?

If you could answer any of these questions I'd be extremely grateful! Thanks, Xedan

I've never WILD'ed either but I've gotten close, the test is that your body tells your mind to roll over because it's uncomfortable, you will really want to roll over but don't

Minor movements will bring you back in you put focus on that movement. I test for SP by trying to move my index finger. If I find it difficult to move, then I know I'm in SP and then I think about something else. I usually have to move my finger 3-5 times before I come out of SP, and that's me focusing on my movement. However, some people may be more sensitive and can come out easier

I keep my eyes still, but after a while, I move them as it's comfortable to do so. Has never brought me out of SP. It usually happens when I get HI, and the HI never goes away, so I'm ok. Again, don't focus on it

Breathing thorugh nose/ mouth isn't important. W/e is more comfy to you. When I actually go to bed, I usually breathe through my nose. However, I'm sure once I relax I get slack jawed and breathe through my mouth... and drool sometimes, haha

Milestones all depend on the person. Mine even vary. Sometimes I'll get the vibrations, then falling, then HI. Sometimes just falling, sometimes just HI, sometimes nothing. I personally don't think people should think there's a "timeline" to getting into SP, it just happens and can usually be different

Tests are usually slight itching. Also, your mind can tell you you're uncomfortable and you should roll over and get comfy. Ignore them. They will stop within a few mins. Again, people experiance different things. Sometimes I have itches, once I felt the typical vibrations, sometimes I feel nothing at all. However, don't focus on anything. Just keep doing breath counts or mantras to keep your mind off the "tricks"

SP prevents you from moving around in your sleep (I know that some people kick in their sleep or sleepwalk, so maybe the come out of SP or have some sort of SP related problem... anyway!)

Everytime you sleep, you go into SP. Most of the time, you're unconcious(you've fallen asleep already)

So yes, whether you're trying to LD or not, you will always go into SP

I would have to say that its not just telling you to roll over

there are many signals that get sent ... ofc rolling over due to comfort...but also itches and anything that will make u move is a signal !!!

so for example your laying completely still when u think u feel something on your arm or leg ( a spider for instance) then like me your going to move and get that thing of you...but like i said most the time its nothing just a signal

ive been very very close to having w.i.l.d's but not yet im just guna keep going and keep still !!

i find when i lay on my back i tend to get alot closer to it ...you dont have to stay on your back and sleep like it ..but use it to relax yourself then wait as long as possible until the roll over signal is nearly unbearable then just turn into a comfy position dont open your eyes or do any big movements that wil help with it alot..

anyway hope this helps you and good luck !!!

sorry if any1 has already said any of this im too lazy to read the replys

I've tried WILDing a lot and failed every time, but today I think I got further than most times, as I could feel numbness almost up to my shoulders, then I heard a whisper next to me say "Hey, hey", which freaked me out and made me open my eyes and ruin the WILD. Its the first time I've had a auditory hallucination, everything has just been swirls, colors, faces, and objects on the eyelids. How close was I? Also since I tend to open my eyes a lot, if I had a sleeping mask would that help?

Yea, the other night I had a pretty weird hallucination that there were like ghostly heads flying around my bed, and I could even hear them screaming.

But I also have another question, does it always take 30 minutes to an hour to do a WILD? and if so then why is it that you can fall asleep, dream, and wake up in much less time than that?

Hmm.. I've gotten VERY close to wilding. Heres my "Methodology"...
      1. Lie Down and relax.
      2. Start counting breaths.
      3. Wait for sleepiness to come on and then start "1. I'm dreaming"... Continue that for a while.
      4. Once HI starts I switch to clarity's "Alphabet Method" (Read her Wild Tutorial)
      5. Wait for SP sets in.
      6. Test for SP
      7. Alternate between 1. I'm dreaming, 2 I'm dreaming and the Alphabet Method.
      8. Wiat for a dream scene before. (I almost got here, but I clenched my jaw to test for SP, and got up just a little to quickly.)
      The Basic order of Phenomenon:
      1. Numbness
      2. Hypnogenic Imagery
      3. Sleep Paralysis
      4. More Detailed HI
      5. Dream Scene
And now.. for a Stephen Strutmeyer Film...

Well it might not be a matter of patience. I was in bed for an hour and a half yesterday and couldn't fall asleep because my head was unsupported so I had to contiously swallow my spit (yea, pretty much as nasty as it sounds once it builds up a lot )

I haven't pulled off a WILD yet, but I'm regularly getting into sleep paralysis very well. With reverse blinking (eyes closed for 5 seconds, open them then close straight away, repeat) got me to sleepiness very quickly as my eyelids felt heavy.

For me (I think) the HI comes during my sleep paralysis and not generally before it.

As for eye movement, moving my eyes around to view the cool and trippy HI actually immerses me further into the state of sleepiness/sleep paralysis and doesn't wake me up, just remember not to focus on the fact that you're moving your eyes around. Treat it like watching a movie or something.

I feel I get on the verge of success once I start to lose contact with my body except for the remote awareness of my breathing. Getting my breathing correct is the hardest part for me because I have to let my mouth go dry and avoiding gulps/moving your tongue, anything there.

What I have to do now is to "step into" or "roll out" of my paralysis into my dream. I'm afraid that I'll just get up and reality check and I'll be actually standing up. A dream image has slightly appeared before but I missed the opportunity and woke up out of excitement, so I'll just try again tonight . Good luck.

These guides really helped me out, for anybody who hasn't read them:

      I mostly get auditory HI,

But anyways, I have a question. When WILDing during a nap, should you WILD before hand, during (WBTBish) or at the end?
