Seems to me like you were entering into the awake/sleep transition. I wouldn't use the word "SP" for that feeling because you were likely already in SP in some form, since you woke up and didn't move. I'd say that the fact that you got scared and started breating heavily is what prevented you from having a successful DEILD. Your brain recognized that you were conscious, so it stopped the process.

It's impossible to do an RC without moving, to tell if you're dreaming or not. However, if you were awake, I'd say it was SP. Since DEILD's a form of WILD, it involves SP. Since you were still in REM, I'd say it was SP.

Your breathing pattern when trying to WILD has to stay constant, and so if you are breathing quickly and lightly, then heavily all of a sudden (etc), your body will think you're awake. Try to even out your breathing! =D
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Actually, that's not true. There is one way to do it, and it's rather cool actually. You have to manipulate a certain muscle in the back of your throat (the one involved in swallowing). You have to "hold" it in a certain position that would normally prevent you from breathing through your nose OR your mouth (hard to explain, but you should know what I mean), and if you can breathe, you're dreaming. If you can't, you're obviously still awake. Cool, huh?

Yeah, it's a really simple way to figure out whether you've crossed over into the dream state without having to open your eyes or otherwise.
