      Wink pretty creepy!

I posted this in my newbie thread as well, but I figured it's better suited for this category:

I skimmed some topics on WILD and when I couldn't fall asleep last night, I tried to recall some techniques and figured they would help me fall asleep. I read somewhere that you should begin by laying straight and still, and eventually you'll go into sleep paralyzation- I'm not sure, I couldn't remember much so I kind of adapted. So I'm laying there, relaxing, concentrating on my breathing, not really expecting much, just wanting to go to sleep when all of a sudden this wave of- I can't even explain it, like motion or spinning or something, came over me. So I'm like holy crap, what's going on, my body is going out of control.

It was frightening but really exciting, and I kept trying to calm myself down otherwise I'd come out of it. Then I could feel my eyes, while closed, flickering back and forth like REM, really freaking fast and intense and I couldn't control it. The whole time I was thinking "OHMYLORD i cannot wait to tell my mom, she's never going to believe me!"

I think I got too excited and eventually "came back" from it and opened my eyes and looked at the clock, so I know I was awake and not dreaming it. Does this sound crazy? Anyone have any similar experiences?

ye i can get to the eyes flickering bit, and it so intense usually my eyelids are forced open, and the whole thing is interuppted.
i might tie something round my eyes to keep them shut in the future...

How long would you estimate that it took you to get in this stage?

I would say about twenty minutes, maybe twenty five. It didn't feel like I was lying there for a long time, but when I think back, I had to have been laying there for awhile because when it happened, I was really taken off-guard because I wasn't really paying much attention.

Alright, so I tried it again last night and the same thing happened, but not as intensely. This time, however, it barely took me five minutes. =/ I was able to go into it almost instantly and I know it's not my imagination, because it really takes me by surprise and I almost jolt.

Wow, five minutes. That is pretty fast. What position do you lay in? and what do you keep your thoughts on?(if you know)

I am asking these questions so to see if there is a method of inducing this stage very fast as it seems that you are getting in it quite fast.

And yes, the jolt thing does happen to me as well, the sleep-paralysis and hypnagogic stage is very psychedelic actually, so enjoy it, dont be scared.

I am guessing you have not yet made it to the lucid dream part so far? If so, let me give you a tip. I am not sure if this happens to everyone, but I was trying to do the WILD method once and when I came close to a lucid dream, I felt that someone was grabbing my head and pulling it off my body, I let it happen and it seemed like a "pop" sound when I felt my head separate. I went into a dream after that. Just letting you know so you dont get scared and jerk out of it.

No, unfortunately I haven't been able to lucid dream yet, I just doze off! Thanks so much for your tip, I'll definitely be aware if ever I get that feeling. What I do is I lay sort of rigid, straight with my arms at my sides an don't move. I concentrate solely on my breathing and I've noticed I eventually let my thoughts "float" by and so I'm not paying much attention, which is when the spinning starts and scares the crap out of me, haha.

That's what i have to learn to do, because instead of focusing on my breathing, i start thinking. What you're doing is a mind quieting/control technique, witnesses your thoughts.

Did you do a reality check?
When that SP wave hits me, next thing I know I'm laying in my bed, and everything seems too real to be a dream, but then I do a reality check, and it turns out I am dreaming
      Spoiler for Goals:

My reality checks normally consist of counting my fingers, reading text, or looking at the clock and during it, I never wanna open my eyes in case I snap out of it. Lately though I've been kind of having a dry spell- I'll do all the same things I've done before but nothing will happen! I won't get the spinny feeling or anything. It's soo frustrating.

Maybe you should try the WBTB technique and WILD together, it is much faster and you have a higher chance of getting a lucid dream. Basically, the WBTB technique says that you should wake up at an early time, so you are still very sleepy, maybe around 4 am, wait fifteen minutes or so and go back to sleep and try WILD method. It should be much faster because you are sleepy.
