I just thought I would share this technique with you guys. I know this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I figure making a thread for it might help some people. It's basically just WBTB, but the key is to stay up for an hour or more. Anyway, here's how you do it.

  1. Go to bed.
  2. Wake up around five hours later. (more or less)
  3. Get out of bed and do whatever for around an hour to ninety minutes.
  4. Go back to sleep.

The theory behind this is twofold. First, the long period of activity wakes up the brain considerably, making it easier to cross that threshold of lucidity while asleep. Second, staying up that long has a good chance of knocking off an entire sleep cycle, condensing the REM periods later in the night. Of course, this is all conjecture, and should be taken with a grain of salt.

However, I can say that this technique has never failed me. Any time I faithfully execute this, I am lucid afterwards, at least briefly.
