Reality and Dream: Objective? Or all in the Mind?

Objective Reality says there is a world outside of our minds and Subjective Reality says everything is in our mind.

Lucid dreams are often considered subjective because they supposedly happen while we are sleeping, and so in our own mind.

Reality on the other hand, is usually considered objective because it is assumed to occur outside of our minds.

Then we throw in the idea of Shared Dreaming, a Dream-Reality hybrid. It is subjective because it is in our minds but also objective as another entity outside of us is in our company.

I'm bringing this up because I don't believe in an Objective Reality. It seems to me that every moment whether waking or dreaming is subjective and in the mind.

For those who are sure of objective or subjective reality, I would like to hear your thoughts.

I was wondering, is the debate about shared dreaming the same as Obj vs Subj reality?

You are referring to our schematics when you refer to Subjective reality. These schematics are built from our perceptions of Objective reality. These schematics become our expectations and therefore become building blocks of our dreams.

Here's how I think I believe you might consider my thoughts on the topic interesting.

A dream is a subjective reality. As you noted it becomes objective when it is a shared dream.

You said as much, but my thoughts differ because I think it stops being subjective altogether as soon as you begin sharing a dream.

Reality works the same way. I don't agree with the opinion expressed in the Dream-sharing debate. I believe it was expressed that a shared dream is subjective to 2 people to the point of the dream becoming unrecognizable to the other. I don't think so. I think it's even more straight-forward. The rules of the dream apply to both parties and the experience is one of two minds in the same subjective reality.

I think we can be subjective or objective in both, dreams and waking reality. So I see no point in marking dreams or waking reality as solely objective or subjective.

On shared dreaming. I think when two people meet in dream, it does not become more objective and less subjective. However one can wake up for a second to secure more objective thinking.

Everything we perceive in waking reality is rendered inside the brain, what you currently see as existing outside yourself is really an image inside your brain. We are walking around with these holographic models of what we think the world is like on the outside when it could actually look very different to how things really are, especially considering our 5 senses are somewhat limited. For example, our eyes don't perceive the full light spectrum and it's all just electrical signals going to our brain.

On top of that you have the observer effect from the famous double slit experiment where they found that the act of observing something can change the outcome. Which makes you wonder if your not observing something does it exist? Scientists have explained it as everything exists as a wave of possibility, and when we observe it collapses the wave into particles that we can interact with.

Just wanted to share that bit of information. It sort of draws the conclusion that all reality is subjective. We never truly perceive the outside world it's all in our heads.

Subjective vs objective seems to depend upon how we self identify. For me the "Me" I refer to typically extends to the borders of my human body. However Me as I believe I am in my gut is the universe at large and therefore I am everything. It is difficult for me to realize this universe at large is me. It would help if I felt attached to the table in front of me the same way I am attached to my hand, but anything beyond the border of my body feels detatched.
