Ok so this technique is sort of RC, breathe awareness technique that I've created, with emphasis on the nose. While it's still being experimented and I'll make changes if I can make it better, maybe you'll find it useful.

But anywho why the nose you may ask? The olfactory sense is often associated with memory;and memory is one of the functions you might be lacking during dreams. So in theory, using smell as reality check would help you better recall recent memories and all those goodies.

The Nose always Knows ok.

But that's not all! We'll also be combining the sense of smell with:

Vision - by looking at the nose

Autonomous system - breath, lungs
(so i think breath is important, just like how you'd pay attention to it in mindfulness, it's something automatic but you have the choice to take control. Just like how a dream is automatic, unless you choose to become lucid and take control. Maybe that's why it's used as a main focus for some meditation)

Hearing - sound of your breathe

This technique could potentially also be used as a Stabilization technique since it engages numerous senses. Much like how rubbing you hands would use the visual(looking at hands), auditory (sound of hands rubbing), and tactile (touching of hands).

So the technique is pretty simple, and discreet.

1. Look at your nose
2. Just breathe
3. You're doing great

----
While doing the above:

Am I dreaming?

While looking is there anything peculiar about your nose? Does it look any different? Is it larger? Pointier? You can look away now. Wait why is it green!?

Take a deep relaxing breath

When you take the breath really try to smell your surroundings does it remind you of anything? Does it smell like where you are in the present moment? Oh yeah I had onions for lunch.

Does your body move at all while you're breathing?
Look at your nose again, did it change?

Listen to the sound of your breath... Does it make a sound? Does the sound of the surroundings cut off the sound of your breath or vice versa? Wha-Hey why does it sound like a lawn mower when I breathe in?

Dream?

----

Practice it a couple of minutes until you get the hang of it. You don't have to follow it in a particular order and it doesn't need to be perfect.

When you do it become aware in the present moment. Do it a couple of times periodically throughout the day, for just a moment or even a second. If you think you've messed up or forgot to pay attention to any details that's totally fine ; we're engaging multiple senses so you've got many chances

Let me know if it works for you
