I have experienced something similar. Black space behind my closed eyelids changing into 3D blackness that was infinitely deep, or changing into a white semi-transparant "plexiglass" that was illuminated from behind. This white field always came with me noticing that part of my brain (upper back) literally came to life and started to hum and make sounds like water going through a waterhose. That was such a powerful sensation, when that happened I knew I just switched into different state of existence. I still get this "switch on" feeling and the humming and at that moment I know I'm transitioning into a lucid dream.
I have also had intense physical sensations that bordered on being unberably painful, or I knew they had a potential to become painful and that was a scary feeling. I overcame this by telling myself whatever happens it's safe and when it's over, I will be in a lucid dream. Oh, and I also LOVE all those sensations, even the "scary" or "painful" ones. Just because they are something unique and intense you can never get in waking life.
The body distortions that astronauts get when flying at speed of light - I get this and I call it "flying at warp speed". I can feel my face distorting like you see on skydivers or indeed in movies with astronauts. Reminds me of Jodi Foster in movie Contact. This sensation is incredibly intense and I love it. For the longest time I had no idea how to exit from it into a lucid dream. Then I spoke to OpheliaBlue who is a badass WILDer and she spoke about how she opens her dream eyes to start her lucids. Since I don't have any more of these warp speed transitions, I can't test this, but I have tried opening my dream eyes at ather transitions and I believe you can do the same, radium. Before I knew about this, I opened my dream eyes twice. First time I was flying in space near a beautiful pink nebula, and second time I ended up on a hill in a lucid dream.
I think that the key is to go into WILDing with very opened mind and with "no matter what happens, I know I'm safe" attitude. Good luck and happy dreams!
