Thread: Double Life

I know the story isn't great, but when I'm relaxing before I go to sleep it gives me something to do.

Spoiler for Chapter 2:

The Robinson Mall…probably the only place you could go on a Saturday around here. It isn’t a very good Saturday either. The forecast, cloudy with a 100% chance of thunderstorms. Weather never seemed to deter my friend Josh though. Once, he planned a vacation too late in the summer and ended up driving straight towards a hurricane. He came back after his hotel was destroyed.

“You awake dude?” Zack broke into my deep trance.
I shifted in my seat and looked at him. Zack was a tall guy with long limbs, star basketball player for our school. He always tries to act cool too, shaking his blonde bangs out of his eyes. I yawned before saying, “Yeah, where’s Josh? Hittin’ on girls that he’ll never date?”
Zack tossed the rest of his burger onto his tray and leaned back. “More than likely.”
I looked passed Zack’s shoulder, Jenny Swift was still sitting alone by the fountain texting.
Zack waved a hand in front of my vision, “Hey, she’s still dating Danny, and I’m still here!”
I acknowledged him, but continued peaking around his shoulder.
“God, you’re as bad as Josh sometimes, man. Gotta’ get over her,” he said yawning and stretching.

Jenny Swift came from a rich family, and her looks match her wealth. The body of a goddess and dark brown curls. Like Zack said though, she’s dating that loser Danny Mcrole. I don’t understand why either considering that he’s always cheating on her anyway.

I jumped when the seat next to me pulled out from the table and Josh slapped down. Josh was a big guy, muscle wise. He is the starting linebacker for our school, and a decent boxer.
“What’s wrong with me? Just because I’m a ladies man doesn’t mean you should hate.”
“I’m not hating,” Zack replied grinning, “Just making talk with this stalker.”
I redirected my attention back to the table, “Yeah, yeah. Stalker is a strong word.”
“It’s a good one too,” Josh laughed.

After we ate lunch we walked around for awhile just wasting the day. It was late evening by the time I got back home, and my dog had already eaten his way weight in my cereal boxes.

I trudged up the stairs and walked over to my door, when suddenly a shadow slid down the hallway. I froze with my hand halfway to the doorknob, and not taking my eyes off the far wall at the end of the hall.
“Hello?” I asked a little too weakly. I took a small step forward, and a loud crash of thunder made me jump back. Forget it, I thought quickly opening the door. I stopped dead in my tracks as I was entering my room.

There was the girl from my dream last night.

These are great the first one was a bit cheesy but written well, keep 'em coming.

Spoiler for Chapter 3:

I did not scream, jump, flinch, or anything of the sort. Instead, I stood frozen with one foot inside the room, staring at her. At first, I thought I was just seeing things. Like the shadow in the hallway, I had my doubts. Unfortunately, this time the figure started moving in front of me.

I stepped back out into the hallway and pressed my back up against the wall. She continued advancing until she was standing in the doorway, and slowly raised a hand towards me.
“Stay back,” I ordered firmly.
Her expression was confused as she stopped moving her hand. “What is wrong, Attilio?”
Now my expression matched hers. “Who the hell is Attilio? And who the hell are you?”
Her mouth dropped and she took a step back. “Why would you use such words? You are Attilio!”
“I’m Jason!” I declared stepping off the wall.
She shook her head and a playful smirk was growing on her face. “Attilio, you have much to learn.” She stepped closer to me again, this time looking up at me from a few inches away.

She was definitely the girl from last night, her beautiful looks still upon her.
She slipped her left arm between my right arm and around my back. “Come, we must get started.”
I hesitated, but when she looked back up at me with her innocent blue eyes I decided to follow.

She led me to my bed, and instructed me to relax.
“I just got out of a relationship,” I explained quickly once I saw what she was implying.
She sat in my desk chair and looked at me sincerely. “Maybe in this world, but soon we’ll be home.”
I shook my head and laughed, ”You’re insane. What the hell is going on?”
“Attilio, away with such words!”
“I’m not Attilio! I am Jay--son! Tell me who the he-….just tell me who you are,” I demanded.
She looked hurt, and refused to respond to my question at first. After a loud shaky sigh, she replied, “Look, maybe you live as Jason here, but where I, Ashley, am from…you’re Attilio.”
I proceeded with some caution, “And where exactly is that?”
She brightened a little at the question. “From the world you construct every night when you go to sleep. Some nights we live in New York 1965, or, my favorite, Italy during the 15th century. Anything can happen!”

I let that sink in for a moment. It sounded sort of exciting to me. “Am I sleeping right now then?”
Ashley put her hand on my hand and rubbed it. “Not yet, but we have much work to do.”
I let my head fall back to the pillow. “What kind of work?”

She put a hand on her forehead and smiled widely. “All will be explained soon.”

Wait is that Ashley or the evil chick confortie?

Sorry, I could've explained it a little better. Ashley is Ms. Conforite.

The only other girl is Jenny and she is in the Real Life World.

This chapter seems a little more interesting. Thanks for reading.

Oh, and the first chapter was kind of like the past of the main character. This takes place a little while after. It will be explained in the other chapters soon, which will be longer after this one.

Spoiler for Chapter 4:

Something about this woman that broke into my house had captivated me. She seemed so innocent, and I couldn’t help but to try and obey her commands. I had come to the conclusion that I must’ve already been asleep and that this was, in fact, a dream. So I might as well enjoy it while it lasts.

So there I lay, in my bed, surrounded by darkness. The thunder rumbling in the distance was a welcoming lullaby to my ears.

“Well if you‘re-” I turned to see an empty chair at my desk. “Ashley?”
My call faded in the silent, empty room. I reached out and touched the chair; it was cold. I closed my eyes and tried to clear my mind. Before I knew it, I was drifting off.




A cold breeze fluttered in my face and under my hood. I shivered and tucked my hands under my arms as I inspected my surroundings. Dead leaves danced up in the wind and fell into a black stream that ran in front of me. The sky was dark gray with clouds, and the sun was no where to be seen. Across the river sat an old, large city wall made of stone with three red flags whipping about freely in the wind.
“Come Attilio, show me you still climb the wall faster than I,” a man said putting a hand on my shoulder. He was a little older than me, and wore an outfit like mine. A long white hooded cloak with armor and weapons. He stood at about my height and had a very white smile. He seemed so familiar that I could mistake him as a good friend. The same went for the city and river in front of me.

“He doesn’t remember you, Ciro” Ashley walked out from behind him.
I let my teeth rattle as I shook my hands at my sides.
Ciro let out a laugh. “I guess he doesn’t remember the Venice weather either?”
I let out a long breath and tried to suck it up. “Why does everybody have such odd names if you’re just Ashley?”
She walked towards the river, “Depends on my location. In this time, I am Anna Confortie. But you’ve always known me as Ashley.”
I let out a shaky, cold laugh, “As in I’ve known you as Ashley for the last two hours.”

Ciro looked at us amused. “You act like children sometimes, I swear it.”
Ashley waved his comment off and looked back at me. “Enough of it, let us see how fast you may climb this wall. First though, you must cross this stream without using the bridge.”

Ashley crossed the bridge to the other side of the stream while Ciro approached the edge.
“Just like me,” Ciro called back as he leaped from rock to rock across the stream. Once at the other side, Ciro turned back to me. “Come now Attilio, just remember to trust in your body when running, climbing, or any of the sort. Your mind is like a prison if you put to much thought into it. Let it run free and it rewards you generously.”

What the hell does that mean? I gave Ciro a thumbs up as I stared at the rocks. Okay, I thought, you got this Jason. Just be graceful, like when you’re running the football. I stepped back to give myself a running start, waited a second, and then went for it.

Sprinting full speed towards the river, the cold wind stinging my cheeks as I approached the edge and leaped off the bank. Then something odd happened, my body felt relaxed as I landed one foot on the first rock, and I was fluidly pushed onto the second rock. I felt like I was walking on air as I maintained full speed from rock to rock, and I made the finally leap towards the other side.

I instinctively rolled upon landing to reduce the impact, and I stood up to the approval of the others. Ashley hugged me as Ciro cheered.
“Haha! See that Anna? A true assassin still. You move like the wind, Attilio!” Ciro said happily.
Ashley kissed my cheek and stepped away smiling, “I knew you could do this.”
As confused as I was, I smiled along with them.

“Now, Attilio, let us see how well you climb…” Ciro gestured towards the wall towering over us.

This reminds me of the first time I played ac1 and was like "Wait all I have to do it hold 2 buttons and altair will do all of this crazy shit?!?" good read thanks for posting

Haha, I loved ac1. Altair IMO, was way better than Ezio. Anyway, I usually post a chapter a day now since I write 2 chapters before I go to sleep. Its enjoyable and relaxing.

Spoiler for Chapter 5:

The sky grew increasingly darker by the minute as nightfall approached. Archers began to light torches across the top of the city wall.
Soft and quiet like the wind, small snowflakes began to fall down.
“Be swift, quiet. Once you have reached the top, stay hidden. The shadows are our friends, and the moonlight is our enemy. Fortunately, our enemy hides tonight,” Ciro said as he walked to the wall and began his ascent.

Ashley walked close to me and put a hand on my shoulder. I could feel the warmth coming off of her as she leaned in to my ear. “Stay safe, let your body guide you,” her breath tickled my neck. I watched her walk towards the gate, and she turned back with a hand up, “Attilio, watch your words and how you speak here. For the guards and townspeople may find it unusual the way you say things.”

I waved her goodbye as she disappeared through the main gate. Time to climb, I thought approaching the wall. I put my right hand onto a stone that stuck out a little further than the rest. Its cold, rough texture enabled me to grasp it firmly between my fingers. Then, as if the same as when I crossed the stream, I began moving fluidly upwards. I kept my eyes above me as I climbed, searching for another foot-hole or handle. As I made my way up a bar in a window, I looked down. Quickly, I pulled myself tightly to the wall and gasped. I had to be at least 50 feet up already.

My fear seemed to melt away though, as I remembered who I was. I wasn’t Jason, I was Attilio. And apparently Attilio was afraid of nothing, which in turn meant that I was afraid of nothing.

I lunged to the top of the window, and began to climb even faster than before. Soon, I had caught up to Ciro, who awaited just below the top of the wall.
He grinned wide, showing his white teeth again in the dark. “Attilio, you seem to be coming back to us now.”
I tilted my head a little, “Yeah, but what do you mean ‘back’?”
Ciro looked confused. “I mean, you fell, off that tower. You died Attilio.”
“Died? Then how am I here?”
Ciro let out a sigh, “You see, when you die in this world, you come back. The problem is, sometimes you come back differently…”
“Differently?” I echoed.
“Yes, as in you might not remember anything or anybody. It takes a long time to get you to remember.”
I thought about that for minute. “But I got the agility still?”
Ciro nodded, “Your agility is a gift. In this world, you are more agile than anybody else. You use some of it in the real world for that sport…football is it?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, luckily for you, Anna worked with you every night for two years. You might not remember it when you would awake, but once you dream, you do,” he explained.
I let myself slouch a little bit. “So that means you and Ashley are people like me?”
He shook his head, “No, we’re only in this world. If we die, we die the same way you would in your real world.”
I opened my mouth to protest but he held up his hand. “I know you saw Anna in your room, but she was merely an illusion. Working inside your mind.”

This was to much to handle, I thought. “And what is our goal in this world? Just for the fun of it?”
Ciro laughed so hard that he had to cover his mouth to keep quiet. “I guess Anna only had time to help you remember a few things. You really don’t know who you are, do you?”
I laughed a little with him as I looked down at the ground below us. “I guess not.”
“Come, you will learn all once we reach the house.”

Ciro climbed over the wall and reached down to help pull me up. The night was still quiet, and the archers were talking and playing cards inside one of the towers. We literally walked right by, unseen.






Once we reached the house that Ciro had spoke of, we were greeted by Ashley and another man that I’d never seen before. Again though, he seemed familiar.
“Attilio! Good to see you back to your old self again!” he said.
Ashley took my hand and walked me into the house. “That is your best friend, Gavino,” she whispered in my ear.
“As to you, Gavino,” I called back. Ashley wrinkled her brow at my accent.

I sat down behind a long wooden table and the others filled in the seats around me.
Ashley spoke first, “Now, Attilio, tell me what you need to know.”
I thought for a moment; there were to many questions I had to ask. “Is this the only world we operate in?”
Ciro answered, “Normally we keep different places under control. That means we often keep on the move.”
“Like, in different time periods?”
“Exactly,” Gavino replied. “You specialize in a specific field of work Attilio. The work of an assassin.”
I shook my head abruptly. “That’s not my style.”
“Oh, but it is. You work here, with the creed.” Ciro stepped in. “But in modern dream realms, you operate as a military tool. Navy SEALs, Special Forces, and highly trained tactical assassins. You wouldn’t happen to remember yourself working as a Green Beret inside Vietnam, do you?”
I shook my head again.
“The helicopter crash? Anna getting shot in the leg twice? You dragging my ass back to base?” Givano recalled.
I shrugged. “Nope, but it sounds like a good time.”
Ashley leaned forward. “If you hadn’t been there, none of us would be here now.”

Hearing her say that was like music to my ears. I might just like this line of work after all…

Spoiler for Chapter 6:

The house that we were enclosed in was quite ornate. It had chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, and furniture that would cost a fortune even in modern times. It was also much warmer inside than that of the outside environment. Huge fireplaces heated the entire house from the ground up.

I rubbed my eyes as Gavino poured red wine into a glass in front of me.
“When do I wake up and leave this world?” I asked.
“It varies. Sometimes you can stay a lifetime, and most of the time you awake after you go to sleep,“ Ashley replied.
I pondered that for a moment, wondering how it would feel to wake up after a lifetime of living a different life.
Ashley could see the concern on my face. “Don’t worry, you can wake up whenever you want. Just think about waking up and it will happen. Oh, but just remember that life goes on in this world.”
“What about my body? Does it disappear?”
Ciro chugged his glass of wine and wiped his mouth. “Nope, it stays here. You basically collapse into a heap where you stand. And I usually have to drag you back home…”
I laughed at the irony. “Are there others like me?”
Ashley inspected her nails and answered, “Of course, few in numbers these days though. Tomorrow, you get to work with one.”
“Cool,” I replied nonchalantly.
Ciro shook his head. “Not really. You’re going into Fallujah.”
I let my mouth drop; Fallujah is the hell hole of Iraq. “Fallujah? What the hell for?”
Gavino walked up behind me and put a hand on my shoulder. “Search and Rescue, or better yet, an assassination. One of our informants was captured last night, and its up to you and Alexis Santel to get him free.”
As I processed this, I looked at the faces around the table. They all seemed so relaxed and assured.
“So I have to sneak in and assassinate the executioner?”
Ciro cleared his throat and put his elbows up on the table. “Not exactly. You’re meeting up with Bravo 1-4, they are to escort you to your destination. That destination is about 400 yards from the kill zone; shoot everybody besides our guy. I suggest talking to Alexis about it upstairs.”

I knocked on the second large wooden door at the top of the spiral staircase.
“Come in,” a voice answered. I opened the door and walked into a large empty room that was embroidered with fancy linen and oriental rugs. A large, crystal chandelier above a massive bed lit the room. And, to my surprise, a very attractive blonde haired girl came out of another room.
“Wow, is every girl in this world extremely hot?” I asked her.
She laughed. “I guess you’re referring to me and Ashley?” her accent sounding like mine.
“Wait, you’re like me? Like, we don’t belong here?”
She sat on the bed and patted a spot next to her. “I wouldn’t put it that way, but yes.”
As I took my seat she flipped her hair out from the ponytail it was in.
“This is amazing, meeting somebody in a dream!”
“Yep, but its not all fun…I’ll be spotting for you tomorrow. Let’s go over what we’ll be doing…”
I chuckled and turned my head away.
“Something wrong?”
I turned back to her blue eyes. “Just about everything in this world, but forget it; continue.”
She smiled at me before proceeding, “We’re going in with Bravo 1-4. Staff Sergeant Johnson will be in command of the unit, but we’re separate from them. Our call is recon 187, working joint. Our helo’ should drop us off about a mile from the spot we’re gonna’ set up. From the drop point, we’ve got about 24 hours before they bring out our guy.”
“We have to sit in one spot for a whole day?”
She laughed. “Nope, we just let out lifeless bodies wait until we go back to sleep again.”
“Oh, so that’s how it works,” I looked towards the doorway.
She let her body fall back onto the bed. “Yep, and one more thing; I can handle myself as well as you, if not better. I don’t need a body guard or a protector, just a partner who can cover his ass and mine.”
I was a little shocked when I heard this, but then I saw it as amusing. “Sounds good to me, I don’t like to baby-sit.”
She put on a fake scowl, “Yeah, we’ll see come tomorrow.”

You should write me in somehow I would be an expert at hand to hand combat but always saying random things and no one would take me seriously (the way I am irl) These are awesome btw

[EDIT] Yeah Ezio was cool but Altair had a lot of personal growth, Ezio did as well when he learned not to take revenge but... I don't know altair was always cooler to me. (don't get me wrong though Ezio is a badass)

You're Alex Dawson in this story ooflendoodle. This one has a little more action, and is a little more into the story.

Spoiler for Chapter 7:

I awoke in my room energetic and excited. I was more excited to see whether or not I would appear in the same dream as I had left the night before. Ashley instructed me to wear myself out during the day by keeping myself active (so I’d be able to fall asleep that night). I got some guys together to play street hockey, never mentioning what I had dreamt, and lifted weights in the evening. By about eleven that night, I went back to sleep at ease…




A hand slapped my face, stunning me for a moment.
“Let’s move!” a familiar voice called over the sound of a helicopter propeller.
I opened my eyes to see Alexis, dressed in US army Ranger desert camo. I had to say the helmet and goggles made her look even cuter in a way.
I noticed I was lying on the ground once she stuck a hand out to help me up.
“We’re running late, get in the chopper,” she ordered grinning. “What? Surprised your back?”
I took her hand and she pulled me up. “Yeah, where is everybody?” I followed her to the helicopter and took a seat.
She tapped an ear piece. “They’re all here.”
I adjusted myself around the positioning of the seating. I realized I was dressed the same as them, and had a complete load of weapons on me.
A few more people piled into the helicopter.
“Lt. Cununk? Jason Cununk?” a man asked me.
I looked at him surprised. “Yeah, that’s my name…”
“I’m Sergeant Alex Dawson, Staff Sergeant Johnson isn’t in today,” he explained.
I nodded. “Oh, where is he?”
“Dead,” he answered while signaling for takeoff. The helicopter jerked and lifted up, g-forces tugging me down.

The helicopter made quick time out across the city below. I was enjoying the sight as people began getting their weapons ready.

“Eyes over here,” Alexis called. She pulled a pistol out of a holster, “This, is your service pistol,” she put it back and began pointing to various magazine holders and weapons. “I’ve got an M21A1 long-rifle on my back, you’ve got an SR-25 sniper. Until we reach the location, they stay there. Use your M4 for this part.”
Funny enough, I knew what she was talking about by literally playing video games.
A marine sitting across from me to Alexis’ right reached out and tapped my knee. “I’m Private Mcroy. Are you really thee Jason Cununk? The one at Tomahawk Ridge in Vietnam?”
I looked at Alexis who put a hand over her eyes but nodded yes.
“Yeah, that’s me. Nice to meet you.”
The other marine to his left waved. “Yeah, and I’m Corporal Hank,” he pointed to the guy across from him, “And this is Private Stanley.”

Suddenly, a red light began blinking and beeping in the cock-pit.
Mcroy looked over his shoulder over to the pilots. “What the f*ck is going on?”
Dawson elbowed me, “Here we go again, huh?”
I looked at him confused. “Go where again?”
He laughed mumbling “go where again…“ as he grabbed onto the handle above him.
Alexis kicked me hard so I’d look at her. She tugged at her handle above her to make me grab mine. Once I had a hold of it she leaned forward to whisper in my ear, “If these guys realize you don’t remember anything, they might lose hope! Keep you head in the game!”

“RPG! RPG inbound!” The pilot called. My eyes grew wide with fear as the rest of the marines cursed and held on tighter.
“Evasive! Pull it up!” the pilot shouted. The helicopter jerked and turned, whipping us around with g-forces tearing us apart.
Then the impact of the RPG came.

The helicopter jerked upwards and the inside flashed red and black.
“We’re hit! CQ1 we’re going down!” the pilot shouted.
Mcroy’s legs kicked as he squirmed to keep in his seat, a big grimace on his face. “F*ck! We’re so f*cked!”
“Blackhawk 187 is going down! I repeat, we have lost the tail rotor!”
The helicopter began spiraling in circles, and everybody was being pulled towards the door. The outside looked like an illusion of flying colors as the speed of the spiral increased.
I began sliding as my grip loosened, and I almost flew out the door, but Dawson grabbed my arm.
“Hang on!” he called ‘down’ to me.
Alexis kicked the walls of the helicopter to stay inside as dust swept in and blinded me.
“Blackhawk is losing altitude! Crash coordinates at 8-4-3, 6-0-2-1!” the pilots continued shouting.
Suddenly, as I opened my eyes, Private Stanley slammed into the door. He bounced off as Mcroy screamed, and he barely caught the edge of the door.
“Hang on, Stanley! HANG ON!” Dawson shouted right by my ear. The spiraling g-forces making me sick, I tried to turn my vision.
“I’m gonna’ die! Imgonnadie! Imgonnadie!” Stanley cried.

Then the helicopter swung too close to a building and Stanley was swatted out like a fly.
“NO! CQ1! Stanley is down! Man down!” Hank yelled.
One of the pilots looked back at us and shouted, “Brace for impact!” right as we slammed into the same building that Stanley had hit.

Death is a funny thing…because, how do we know when we’re ‘dead‘?


Muffled noises floated in the blackness…Little, fading light gently poked into my vision.
“Jaayyy…” a voice called softly. Then, as quick as we crashed, I was back. My vision was wobbly, and so was my hearing.
“Jason! You’re alive!” Alexis cried over the rapid firing of a .50 cal. As my vision returned, I was looking up at Alexis who was kneeling over me, and behind her was the front portion of the crashed helicopter. Sparks were flying from bullets ricocheting off metal helicopter pieces to our right..
“To the left! Left side!” I heard somebody shout.
A burst of gunshots were followed by, “Sniper! High right! Hank, I need reloaded!”
Alexis slapped my face, “Wake the F*CK up Jay! This is life or death!”
She slapped a gun to my chest and heaved me to my feet.
“Covering fire!” Mcroy yelled.
“Reloading! Hostile behind the car!” Dawson called.
Alexis tossed me behind a crate in front of the .50 cal mounted to the crashed helicopter, and she sprinted towards Mcroy who was pinned down behind a dumpster.
“CQ1, this is Foxtrot 8-4, we’re pinned down at crash site Alpha!” Dawson shouted from behind the .50 cal.

Suddenly, I was turned around to a man wearing a red cloth around his head. He shouted and slammed a fist into my face. I collapsed onto the ground and looked up at him as he pulled out a knife and advanced over top of me.
Then, out of nowhere, a hand flew in and grabbed his arm. Quickly, the hand twisted the arm and a knee flashed up into the man’s face, sending him backwards.
Dawson grabbed my vest and dragged me back to the .50. “Close call buddy!”
Gunshots endlessly echoed off the empty buildings around our position.
“I need a magazine! I need a mag!” Hank called.
“Here! Heads up!” Alexis shouted.
I rubbed my eyes hard and coughed up dust. Once I opened them, I realized what the commotion was about. There were roughly 20 men firing on our position from across an abandoned street.
Then, the same as every time I was in this world, I began doing things like I knew what I was doing. I swung the red-dot sight on my gun up to a man behind a car and unleashed a five round burst through the window. He dropped like a rock.
“Hell yeah!” Mcroy cheered.
Then, I heard the .50 cal chamber behind me. “Think that’s good? How about this?”
Dawson unleashed on the .50, raining bullets over my head and demolishing the car and side walls along the street.

After the bullet shells stopped falling out of the gun, it was quiet.
Alexis ran over to me and knelt down in front of me. She grabbed my chin and turned my face left and right, up and down.
Then she looked into my eyes with her bright blue ones, and grinned wide. “Still think this is a fun place to be?”

Here it is, Chapter 8. Sorry that this chapter is a bit boring, but I couldn't find a good way to make it entertaining without combining it with the next chapter. I also like to keep it short for the convenience. Oh well, it's more like a filler chapter anyway. The next chapter gets much better...

The day had started off good, and turned into a hellish torture. Stanley was confirmed KIA once we cleared the area. Not only is that bad, but our evac request was declined. Apparently the 5 man, and woman, squad was efficient enough for this operation. The sun was still high in the sky as we progressed towards the outskirts of the city.

We’d cleared about 3 neighborhoods already once the sun was at its highest.

“Alright, you take the lead,” Dawson ordered. Alexis and I walked to the front of the group as we rounded corners throughout a market district.
Alexis bumped my arm. “You alright?”
I glanced at her as we crouched to stop behind a wooden stall. “Yeah, what about you?”
She looked up before answering, “Fine. Stanley was a local, he won’t be coming back.”
I hadn’t thought of that, but now I see what was making her so jumpy.
“Hey, I got movement,” Hank whispered.
We all turned to him at his position as rear guard.
“Show me,” I whispered back. He gestured with his thumb back behind us. A basket was rolling down the street.
“Any more Rangers out in this area?” Alexis asked. Dawson shook his head. Then, instantly, a man jumped out from behind a corner and shot Hank in the shoulder.

Mcroy immediately returned fire into the man as Hank dropped onto his back.
“Clear!” Mcroy shouted out.
Hank rolled over and over clutching his shoulder, “God damn! Stings like a b*tch!”
“We’ve gotta’ keep moving, patch him up as we walk,” Alexis ordered.
I followed after her while the others helped Hank. We walked under a small rock bridge leading out into a large open field. Alexis took a drink from her canteen as the others caught up.
Once the group was back with us, I could see that Hank was in pain but able to continue.
“Alright, this is where we split,” Alexis declared.
Dawson pulled out his map and located our position. “Hey, don’t forget us out there.”
“We’ll do what we can,” Alexis replied.
Dawson turned to me, “Hope to see you soon.”
“Same to you, nice work today,” I patted his shoulder.

Sand blew in my face and old, scraggly thorn-bushes jabbed through my pants as I crawled behind Alexis. Daylight was fading now, as we had been crawling for what seemed like hours. Luckily, Alexis and I had stripped off some of our gear before to make it easier. We were down to our camo, hats, face paint, guns and ammo.
“Here we are,” Alexis whispered softly back to me. I crawled up beside her and she put an arm around my shoulders. “You’re doing better than I expected.” she said with a smile.
“Thanks,” I replied without much enthusiasm. I was actually tired…even though I was actually asleep at the moment…
“There’s the courtyard,” she pointed at a cluster of buildings in the distance. “We’ve still got about 16 hours until they bring him out. Just enough time to wake up now and come back at about 11 tomorrow night.”
I rolled onto my back and closed my eyes. “Sounds like a plan.”
Alexis unfolded a sand-colored blanket and tossed it over top of our bodies.
“Sleep tight.”

I was beginning to live life outside the dream realm with more enthusiasm. I woke up on Monday like it was Saturday. This was probably the most amazing experience I had ever been a part of. I couldn’t wait to see what the next night would hold…

So how long are you planning to make this?

Not sure, I'll definitely finish it with a proper ending sometime but idk what chapter it'll end on. The chapters are like micro-chapters though so it'll reach around 30 or more hopefully (from previous writings).

I will definitely try to get a chapter on here today, but I have to write a report for English so I can't say that there will be one. Tomorrow I will be getting clothes for homecoming and on Saturday is homecoming and I'm staying at a friends house. Don't worry though, between now and Saturday there will be a chapter! Ill keep you updated!

Haha, I decided to go shopping today so I'm free tomorrow unless I go to a football game. I have a chapter 1/3 of the way written so it shouldn't take long. Now I have to do that report

I feel asleep around 11:30 that night, and I knew what to expect.



I opened my eyes, I could feel it. But it was still dark, and stuffy. Then I remembered that I was underneath the blanket next to Alexis.
“Hey, you’re awake,” she greeted me as I popped my head out. “Here look.”
She pointed to the horizon over the sand dunes at the rising sun. The sun’s beautiful glow shined red as it peaked the dunes.
“Wow,” I mumbled in awe.
Alexis turned back to me with a sad expression on her face. “It’s hard to believe this place can be so…..scary.”
I raised my brow. “Scary? To you?”
She rolled her eyes. “It’s like this in our world too ya’ know. Fallujah…”
A cold morning wind blew across the sand over us and she shivered. I slid my arm around her shoulders and pulled her close. “Yeah, but that’s why they have people like us. Wait, are there people like us in our world?”
She shrugged, “I don’t know, maybe. It would be nice.”
We both watched a car drive along a road ahead of us as it went towards the courtyard.
“So, how long do we have?” I asked.
She looked at a watch, “About 3 hours.”
I nodded and yawned. “Who’s taking the first shot?”
She looked at me surprised. “You are. Actually, you’re taking every shot.”
“What? But there could be a dozen people down there!” I protested.
“You can do it,” she reassured.
I shook my head. “Why do you have a long-rifle then?”
She put a hand on her face and mumbled something. Then looked at me with what seemed to be sad eyes. “Jason, they were gonna’ tell you later, but I’m telling you now…”
I just stared at her.
She looked towards the courtyard and swallowed. “Once we’ve got the executioners down…you’re going to get him.”
I continued my confused stare. “What does that matter? I mean, don’t worry about it so much. If I die, I’ll come back again anyway.”
“You don’t know what happens when you get hurt here do you? It hurts like it would in our world. And sometimes, rarely, it can tear a hole in this part of the world.”
I rubbed her shoulder and continued staring into her eyes. “We don’t get scared. We’re the hero’s here, not the locals.”

After hours of just talking and entertaining each other, it was time. A benefit of the time spent waiting was that any awkwardness between the two of us had melted away.
“There’s our guy, burlap sack on his head,” Alexis peering through the binoculars.
I closed my left eye and looked through the high-powered scope atop my SR-25. I could see the guy as if he was standing ten feet in front of me. He had his hands tied behind his back and a man with an Ak-47 was pushing him into the middle of the courtyard. Two other armed men walked out behind them and they circled around him.
“They’re gonna’ start reading his list of crimes and what not. We’ve got about 2 minutes to take the shot. Tell me what you’re looking at.”
I let out a shallow breath. “Three bad guys, one good.”
I could see Alexis shake her head with a smirk. “Ok, you can confirm our guy?”
“Yes.”
“Alright, your set at 400 yards, but the wind is kicking to the right. Adjust three left,” she instructed. After staring at blankly for a moment, she slowly slid my gun to towards her. “What are the numbers in the top left of the scope?”
I looked at the green, digital numbers. “They say -3.4 and 2.1.”
“Good, now, let your instinct guide you. The first shot will be you, all you. After that, you should know by now, you start doing things without thinking about them…”
I nodded and took a deep breath.
“Just hit the guy reading first,” she said before pushing the button on her ear-piece. “Alright Ashley, we have a confirmed target.”

My radio crackled to life, “Green to shoot. Take ‘em down.”
Alexis nodded to me, and I was back into scope view. The man reading was calm as he moved his head left to right. His friends stood to the side, cheering every now and again. The crosshairs were slightly to the man’s left as I clicked off the safety and slid my finger towards the trigger. Slowly, I squeezed it…

The shot crackled through the air, and about a second later, blood exploded out of the man’s chest. As he rolled onto the ground, his friends were still confused on what had just happened. Instinctively, I adjusted and fired another two shots, dropping them where they stood. The whole thing lasted about 3 seconds.
Once I took my eye away from the scope I noticed Alexis staring at me with her mouth open. At first, I was afraid I had done something wrong, but her lips slowly curved into an open smile.
“What the hell was that?” she asked laughing.
I was ashamed, “What did I do?”
Alexis kept laughing as she touched her ear piece, “Alright-targets…down.”
The radio buzzed. “Already?”
“Yep,” Alexis laughed harder.
I pushed Alexis’ shoulder and she rolled over. “What did I do?!” I asked in a serious tone.
Alexis tried to calm herself as she tried to answer between laughs, “Nothing-its just…normally… it takes…a little more preparation!”
I grinned. I guess it was pretty impressive…
Alexis laughed out a sigh and pushed me back. “Good to see you’re ‘actually back’ after all. You haven’t changed a bit!”
“That’s a good thing I suppose…” I said with a curious expression.
“No doubt! Now, go get the guy still sitting on his knees shaking like a baby…”

As you wish. I woke up at about 9 today, don't have to leave until 6 so I decided to write this
Chapter 10!

I dove behind a rock as bullets splashed into the sand around me. I took a few deep breaths as I picked out my next move. An old rusted out car was sitting about 20 yards from my position, so it would have to do.
“Moving!” I called into the radio as I ducked out from behind the rock into the hail of gunfire. Bullets slipped by so fast I felt like flinching at every gunshot. The shots were getting closer too, I could feel it. I made a dive to the car and rolled into the side of it. Quickly, I popped up over the hood and fired three shots into another terrorist that was getting a little too close. I turned back around to reload and as I pulled the magazine out of the bottom, a man popped around the car yelling. I frantically reached for my service pistol but it was too late…Alexis had already sent one into his face.
The radio buzzed, “Can you say, ‘thank you Alexis?’.”
“Thank you Alexis,” I repeated copying her tone.

After I reloaded, I scouted the area again. Another car was sitting in the courtyard parking lot about 30 yards away this time. I wouldn’t make it by just sprinting there, I’d have to run and gun. I popped up and took off, and after about 10 yards, I dropped onto my belly and took aim into a window. A man appeared holding an assault rifle, and I fired 10 shots into it before running again. This time I slid behind the car, but heard no following gunshots.
“This is as far as I can cover you. It seems clear out front,” Alexis explained.
I pushed my ear piece, “Alright, moving in.”
I proceeded into the neighborhood, looking around each corner carefully. As I entered the courtyard, I saw our target was huddled to the ground with a bullet wound in his stomach.
“Our guy took one to the stomach, but he’s alive,” I relayed. Alexis started to say something, but then, out of nowhere, I was hit in the back of the head and sent to the ground. My earpiece was sent flying off.
Dizzily, I turned over and a man grabbed my vest and pulled me to my feet. He swung a fist into my stomach and kneed my face as I bent over. Again, on my back he walked over and raised a foot ready to stomp my face in. Right before it came down on me, I rolled to my left and it missed. Then, I unsheathed my knife and slammed it into his leg. As he yelled and backed up, I got to my feet and grabbed his left shoulder. One punch to the stomach, another, another, and then with the rest of my adrenaline, I gave him a huge uppercut to the jaw. I walked over, retrieved my knife, whipped off the blood, and grinned at my work.

I assumed the man I was carrying back to Alexis was unconscious from blood loss. He had dirty black hair and he seemed pretty weak. His eyes were black and his face was scratched badly. Dog-tags swung limply like his arms and legs. I made quick time back to our sanctuary among the rocks. Alexis’ face was pale and desperate as I put him down in front of her.
“What’s wr-”
Alexis took of the dog-tags and quickly pulled out a bag from under her vest. “Hurry! Put pressure on that!”
I obeyed by pushing both of my hands over the bullet wound. Alexis pulled out two needles, took the caps off in her mouth and slammed one into his leg. She left it there as she frantically pulled out gauze and some cloth. She handed them to me and I placed them under my hand. Tears were streaming down her face as the pushed the other needle into his arm. Once that needle was empty, she began pushing on his chest in pulses.
“Come on! Come on Jeff!” she cried.
Then, the craziest thing I’d ever witness happened. A gunshot echoed in the city, and as if time slowed down, Jeff’s head exploded.
Alexis fell backwards as did I and she began screaming. Another gunshot echoed in the distant city and suddenly something hit my right arm. I spun and landed against a rock as Alexis continued to shriek. I opened my eyes through my grimace to see another shot hit the rock next to her. She ran over to Jeff’s body crying. A fourth shot echoed, and I tackled Alexis and pinned her to the ground.
“Are you insane! You’ll get yourself killed!” I shouted at her. She fought me for awhile, but I wouldn’t budge. Once the gunshots stopped, she quit fighting and just continued to weep. I could hear her radio chattering, so I took it and put in my ear.
“What the hell is going on,” Ashley asked.
I pushed the button and rolled off Alexis, still keeping an arm around her. “The guy, he’s KIA. Alexis is losing it.”
I heard Ashley sigh. “I’m sorry to hear that Alexis…”
“She doesn’t have an earpiece...”
“Oh, well Jeff was Alexis’ friend. Jeff was a local, and he helped Alexis out since she was new here. An evac chopper in on route…”

I looked over at Alexis, she was still sobbing and holding her face. I could only imagine what that was like for her to have witness that.

I had about 20 minutes until the chopper arrived…which gave me about 10 minutes to get to that sniper and settle the score.

Nice I like them but don't feel like you have to do anything just because of me.

Nah, its cool. I love to write and during the school year I don't have much to do. I live in a neighborhood with a bunch of 8 year-olds and since I'm only 15 I can't drive out to friends yet. On the weekends I usually go someplace but Monday through Friday is like painting a gray wall with gray paint. School is fun (without the work ).
