Control the centre of the board, not the edges. Always think as many moves ahead as possible (or at least one more than your opponent). Don't get tunnel vision on one piece or move. Learn all the weird moves like castling, en passant, promotions, etc. Lean how to use knights effectively, they're some of the best pieces in the game. Anything with a long reach, like a rook or a bishop is best used as an area denial piece. Learn about pawn structure. That should be good enough for now. |
