      Arrow Bottling Water

What do you know about bottling water?

Being jobless since march, and having no luck finding another job yet, I'm flat broke. I have about $12 to my name. 5 years ago, we got tired of our well running dry in the summer so we had it dug a few thousand feet deeper. They hit an underground reservoir and our well has literally been overflowing with water ever since. They had to install some overflow mechanism to the top of it. I'd say 5 years of constant overflowing water means we tapped into something big.

I had the idea to start bottling and selling water from our well, but I have no idea how the bottling process works. I do know that our water has been tested after they drilled it deeper, and it's the cleanest they've seen. The well-drilling-guys were even drinking it as it overflowed.

Do you just get empty bottles, and caps with the safety thing still attached and screw it on? If so, I'd rather not have to bottle each one by hand.

I also haven't thought much about what to name the bottling company. A name that has been floating around is: Draper's Drip - "dripping to a store near you." So any suggestions on names are welcome, as well as bottling advice.

I would think that you would need to get certification/permit to sell your water legally, which would probably really put a crimp in your plans due to all the hoops to jump through, red tape to cut.

I'm pretty sure that even water brought up from an underground spring needs to be purified under strict health standards before it can be sold. As for the actual bottling process, I am fairly sure that cannot be done by hand. The water probably needs to be pumped out, transported to a bottling facility, and purified and bottled by machine. Unfortunately, I doubt your excess water supply could be turned into a money making business. But maybe I'm wrong. Who knows, the big bottling companies might take interest in your spring.

My plan was to worry about all the legal stuff after I have some idea of how to physically start bottling the water. I'm in no rush to start bottling.

I'm definitely going to have it tested again, but if I'm 98% sure that it won't have to go through any purification. I was thinking of setting up a small bottling facility at my house. My friend's dad owns two stores and he said he could get him to sell the water there. I don't plan on it becoming a huge business overnight. I just want to start out small and see what I can do with it.
